I've always found it hard to believe that a lingcod would turn down a delicious 831tackle swimbait because the jig head wasn't powdercoated red with cute little eyeballs but hell, what do I know  :smt005

My lingcod catch percentage has increased from days of bait to swimbaits. Without going into to much credit to Albycore ( Robert )  Dont want his noggin to get to big. Lol. He has actually given me some great tips. No painted leads and no scent has produced some nice lings for me lately. I think it's been more of good swimbait, location and presentation.

i must agree

im not real big into colors i go with all natural colors . i think mostly, colors catch fisherman and to a lesser extent the fish.

Natural lead is pretty much the color or a baitfish.

Other than the almighty red head/white swimbait combo, I pretty much ignore the color of the jighead.

Since most color disappears at depths (unless fluorescent) most colors appear pretty much grey-scale underwater. So I dont care as much about color as I do about contrast.  I stick with light colors, dark colors and then multi shades of colors.  White is pretty much my favorite color.  :smt004

I agree with Al, I think colors fall into two categories, light & dark. The actual color doesn't really matter much.
However, I noticed a couple years ago that we caught lings only on the yellow head or yellow tailed swimbaits. Something about the yellow that day, when they wouldn't hit red or black, or any dark colored lure.

Isn't sound/vibration more important when fishing for lingcod? You've got to get a ling to poke it's head around a corner or pop out of a hole or crack to see what the commotion is before it can even see it's target. Of course you'll get the drive by bite if one is hanging out above ground, hence the trolling lings.

Knock the crap out of the bottom, get a couple to eyeball an erratic swimbait and the color won't matter, unless the water is stained or muddy.
