Im planning on going to SC this weekend with a friend, he has fished there often. It will be my first trip out in the salt. We were planning on staying at the harbor camp area, but they wont let us stay there in my box trailer. Any close to the water suggestions? I should add that we want a toilet and shower too.

I seem to remember a truck/trailer combo parked in the CG parking lot in Monterey overnight & I think the guys staying in the trailer where out fishing in kayaks. This was a couple years ago so check it out first.

Come to the Central Coast There are places to stay. that are first come first serve. If Avila has room there is a shower there. but full hook ups too. Same distance for you.

Sorry to say, but you likely wont find one this time of year.  All of them will probably be booked up for the weekend.  Here is a list of them however:  http://www.santacruzca.org/lodg-dine/campgrounds-rv-parks.php  New Brighton would be the closest to Capitola.

I was thinking one of the beach spots along San Andreas road.  Though it will be a good 15-20 minute drive from the launch spots.  KOA?

Right on Mike! I hope you have a great time out there.
Trailer-camping options in Monterey include Veterans Park, the Fairgrounds, and Laguna Seca Raceway. Then heading north towards Santa Cruz, we've got Moss Landing KOA, Watsonville La Selva Beach KOA, Sunset State beach, Manresa State Beach, New Brighton beach, and Seacliff beach.
If you look up above SC along hwy 9 there are a few options like Henry Cowell or the RV parks like Smithwoods, Cotillion Gardens, or Santa Cruz Redwoods (all right by Roaring Camp Railroads).
This time of year, and with short notice, you probably won't find anything available for reservation online. But I suggest you call them to at least ask if there are any cancellations/vacancies. Honestly, I would consider looking into a cheap hotel too (like the Motel 6 on hwy 1 in Watsonville).

couldn't find a camp spot close so we got a motel, pricey with it being summer n all. Fished Sat near mile bouy and caught short lings and little rock fish, even a 3.5" Vermillion. I had been advised by local shop to use size 1 hooks for live bait. Well that didn't seem right, but hey, they are the pros. Lost several fish IMO due to short little hooks. Other guys were fishing 3 to 5 size hooks. I had several on and they came off half way up. Had one pull drag all the way back to the bottom and came off. Next time I guess.

Had a great time, saw a group of GWS go by 200'  away headed towards the open sea in a SW direction. We saw the fins of 2-3. We then went up on top of a swell and could see the white underside. We went the other way for 100 yds and didn't see them again.
