Whomever chose "other", can you PM me what brand unit that was?  Eagle?

Wasn't me but it you add it to the list ....I'll add that one to the other three I selected. The Eagle was my first FF ...still love using it on lakes and rivers where no gps is required.  :smt044
Eagle was my first new FF too!  Followed shortly behind by a Lowrance LMS-350 which had a GPS antenna sold separately and, at the time, was over $500 to add to the unit!

I added Eagle under Lowrance category since it is/was one parent company along with Simrad & B&G.  The only other company I could think of that WASN'T already on the poll was Furuno, JRC, PinPoint & Interphase

Front facing camera ... good thought.  Basically a built-in go-pro.  You are looking at your screen & it is looking back at you.  Could be viable.

Make it adjustable.  Your head is most likely not what you want to be the focal point of the shot.

Apelco 465 by Raytheon circa 2002?  :smt005  It was perfect because it was simple & easy to use, with no exposed terminals, powerful 50/200mHz transducer, and solid quick-release base!

Yeah ... didn't figure ANYONE had one of those still around.  Like the Interphase, Magellan, & Raytheon.

Funny how all these companies disolve into one another.  Most recently was Raymarine became a Flir company ...  Apelco absorbed into Ratheon I believe.  Raymarine was a child of Raytheon.  Eagle into Lowrance but all under Navico umbrella.  Humminbird is Johnson Outdoors.

And Johnson Outdoors owns Ocean Kayak...hence the scuppers on the OK's being Humminbird adaptable correct ?
Bingo ...  Might be why Hobie & W.S. (I believe) partnered with Lowrance.

Minn Kota trolling motors couple up with Humminbird so Motorguide partnered with Lowrance to even the score.  Garmin tends to like to stay to themselves & just create their own version of things rather than couple with other brands.  Good/Bad ... it's how they roll!

I love my older Humminbirds. A 565 and a gps combo, I think 585?
They have been so very dependable! And bombproof.
I just wish they had a heavier gauge wire at the connection to the battery.

I liked my HB565, too....until I saw the display on my Dragonfly 6!!

If it can't be made waterproof, water resistant features would be nice. I can understand losing a unit if the kayak rolls, but I would hate to lose function from wave spray or other minimal water contact. If water resistant is an undesirable hurdle to cross, I'd settle for a nylon hood and sock that slips over the unit and cords... perhaps that would more readily fall to an aftermarket entrepreneur.

Echoing the sentiment of others for app compatibility, allowing a la carte additions in the future would be epic. Manufacturer only needs to make a couple basic frames, and users get the flexibility to choose precisely what modules/functionality they want to add to the unit. Want to add an active fishing log app, buy the card/flash drive/download/whatever and voila! You're in business.

Those that still have working ancient fish finders deserve a prize IMHO.  I know of at least one Eagle still in use by an OG on here, a 242 I believe?  :smt002

Does a Humminbird Matrix 17 put me in the discussion?  Not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed.  Lol.

This is why our sport is called the madness.  I keep spending money on better gear.  I started with a 4 inch BW screen and now use a 7 inch color Chirp unit.

I still have a Matrix 17 that gets called into duty every now and then, whenever I use the kayak that it is attached to.  While I have a couple of newer Humminbird unit, for what the 17 does as a basic B&W fishfinder, it does what i need of a fishfinder, identify structure, bait school, and possible targets.  That, and it lasts forever (days!) on a 7Ah battery.  Be proud!
