Want to rebuild my Brendella ski boat stringers Bill?
Uh, lemme think about it...

   No!   :smt003

I'm so stinking booked with personal projects, otherwise it would/could have been a fun project.
No rush! I just keep putting it off. ;-)

I thought you did that a year or so ago in the ski boat?  No?

I'll restore your boat if you restore my 68 Camaro  :smt003

That's what's up guys you guys are pros perfect advice, I'm not really looking into boats with steering wheels or anything fancy though just engine and hull, maybe when I get a better job or have kids I'll look into something bigger. I called cap boat and bait and I asked them if they knew what brand boats they had but they make their own boats they're wood with fiberglass coat I'm guessing. Should of asked them if they were down to sell or make one for me  :smt003 About how much did you spend in materials building your wood boat from scratch and how long did it take you? Fishingforthecure?

The last wooden boat I made was quite small (8') BUT I did take it out on Lake Don Pedro with my wife & 2 kids!  It is a special boat though & could have been done for FAR less than I put into it only because I was doing it as a showpiece.

If you ever want to try & build your own, check out these 2 links:

The 'stitch & glue" method is very easy to do, even for a first timer & can be built in a very short period of time.  I'll try 7 post some pics of a few boats I've done.  Darn it!  Now that I looked at those 2 sites again, it makes me want to build another boat  :smt003

I'll be attempting to build a 15' Grand Banks style fishing dory next month. Costs about $600 in materials and should take about 4 weekends. It'll be my first time.

Nice!  What plans?  I'd like to do a Panga style boat in the future.

It's the 15' Glousterman from Spira International. Using 1/4" Okoume plywood. Yes, pangas a nice fishing boats. Thought about building a panga first but decided on something lighter to car top.

In that case, checkout Salinas Valley Marine. I have seen them advertise the 15ft G3 aluminums for under $2500 brand new (v150 series). Then just slap on a used tiller outboard.

That'll probably be your best bet, they are sweet little boats.....it'd be a way better option than a 14' tin boat.

I wouldn't rule out that 16 whaler though....$4k is a ridiculous deal if its running (those Johnson 2 strokes are hard to kill) and not waterlogged.  That boat will safely expand your range a ton.

Now you got me thinking about building  my own boat,  should be a good project for my dad and I to build. Only problem is I don't have any woodwork experience Google and YouTube should be able to teach me something though haha. You should post some pics to check your work out super tempted

Thanks for advice bro I'll look into that whaler.

Awesome bro if you don't mind post pictures and keep me updated on your boat build it should help a lot and I'm sure I'll learn something from it  :smt006

That 17 footer is from the time period when it was a Boston whaler not a Florida whaler.  Considered by many back east to be a better boat. The company moved to Florida and many have complained they are not the same as they once were, I can't say that for sure.  I do know a guy across the cove from my grandfathers place in Rhode Island had the same BW skiff for close to 40 years, had a 25 hp Evinrude on it.  It might have been a 14 or 15 foot boat. Heard the family sold when the old man died.  It was an Icon for5 me that summer was in when I saw the whaler in the water across the cove.

I'm sure it goes without saying but focus on outboard motors & not I/O (inboard/outboard) or regular Inboard.  Most boats in the size range you are looking at will be outboard but I thought I'd throw that out there.

I didn't see anyone mention Livingston.  They seem to be tough, stable little boats.  It's what the guys at the Capitola pier used to bring out a replacement outboard when the one on the rental skiff died. :smt001

There's a bunch of small, stout boats that could be mentioned.  Though I haven't used one, Livingston does look to have some good features to it.
