Grunion for 2015- fish info/dates

I get back Friday afternoon, so was thinking Saturday. Maybe take Sara and Quinn out for the day in Monterey, meet up on the beach at night.  Bonfire time?

I spent a couple hours down at Del Monte beach last night. I only saw 4-5 fish and only caught one. I saw a couple other guys who occasionally chased a fish or two too. The fish are there just in very low numbers. I brought my surf rod and hooked up my one grunion in hopes of a near shore halibut or striper to no avail. This was my first time seeing grunion this far north, I am use to them down south and this was a pleasant experience.

 Brings back memories of a year that we encountered a good run at the Klamath in the late 70's. Pretty sure they were grunion. Guys were filling buckets in a single swoop with "A" frame nets.

Congrats on your first NorCal grunion!  I heard grunions send a few "scouts" onto the beach and if the coast is clear, the rest of the gang will follow. The key is to leave the scouts alone so you jump in on the grunion beach party.  Maybe that was a grunion scout you caught?
