FYI
One on Pajaro Dunes Beach and one on Waddell Beach. You know what dead whales attract.  Be safe out there.

What's up with all the dead whales?  Last week there was a sperm whale in Pacifica, then a killer whale up in Mendo, and now these two.

Run for the hills....they are dying from cancer caused by the Fukushima disaster! Or perhaps they are beaching themselves to escape Godzilla heading our way.

Joking asides, I wonder if the whales are facing the same starvation problems that the sea lions are? Perhaps this a good sign of a normalizing population? Are the whale populations up and we are just starting to see a return to a normal mortality rate? Are these young or old animals dying? The ban on whaling started in the 80s?

The killer whale looked like an accident with the fishing equipment.

Was the killer whale area cordoned off and treated as a toxic spill site due to high levels of mercury? Or is that just done with the ones up North?

Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

AMEN!  That's a subject that will fire me up hotter than the time Alex tried to rally us against the hostle takeover of his favorite organic popcorn vendor.

I read that the sperm whale was an older, malnourished male, so it may be....

...sorry, hadn't yet read the link. These gray whales both look to be younger animals, with their bodies exhibiting rake marks and their tongues missing, meaning orca predation.

The sperm whale I read about was washed up elsewhere.

Happens all the time. Usually people don't care unless the media gloms onto it. I've carved my initials in dozens of dead whales over the years...and never saw any of THOSE on the news.
