Awesome event! I was hoping to get that champagne shower though!!! See you guys on the water!

Here was the one that got me the Win
Congrats dude! Sorry I wasn't there to pop the bubbly. Didn't catch my first fish till 12:05 and the weigh in and awards was over by the time I got in. Way to go on the win and enjoy the yak!

whew....  Just want to check in.  Like Ryan, I had to nap.  Unlike Ryan I ALWAYS have to nap

I'll post up a narrative report with leaderboard and all, but it's happening tomorrow.

I just got my gear rinsed off, and ate some fettuccine.  Time for chinese action movies and the barcalounger.

But got to say THANKS EVERYONE for another great meet at MBK

Thank you Bushy and MBK for a fun day OTW! Thank you Scott for being there with Hot man dogs  to enjoy again too! It was a great to get out OTW! Good to see some friendly faces and meet new friends! Fishing for me was slow. My fish finder wouldn't work so I was just hitting spots from memory and land marks. Guess I wasn't very good at it  :smt044 I only got one ling that was half weight of the winner but it tasted good! Met and fished with a soon to be new member. It was just a fun day! Thanks again MBK and all who helped make the day another great derby. I'll be waiting for next year  :smt003

I was surprised to hear it was slow. It was pretty on fire for me (for this area, it's usually a bit slower for me). I released like 5 lings and 6 rockfish.

I went to the second can straight out.

But I had no luck with typical jigging. So I let a lot of line out and trolled the swimbait along the bottom. That was the trick for me and I got a lot of bites that way!

I had a great time. First time on the ocean for me. Caught my first ling (keeper size), fist rockfish. Overall a great day if fishing, especially for a newb like me. Was able to meet with some real cool ncka folks. Thanks daniel (forgot your name on here) for letting me use your wheelz. Thanks mbk and allen for putting this together. Will for sure do it again next time.

my kayak fishing life began at MBK many years ago with Bushy. I will fish this tournament every chance, its like going home.  :smt001

trooched small mackerel around and found 6 lings all right around 23-25 inches. No contenders but great table fare. Great seeing the usual suspects and meeting some new ones.

Cool event and thanks to everyone who put in the efforts to make this happen. Also congrats to the winner(s).

This event gave me an excuse to hang with some friends in Santa Cruz Fri night. I've never fished this place prior but I had a plan. I went to the pier made bait and then headed south towards the kelp. Fished a bunch of holes and finally had a taker on a 10" mack. LDR with lots of sharps deeps rakes, maybe a hali, who knows. Mack was still kick'n so I dropped her back down for an instant zingggg goes the clicker, counted to 5 and set the O-hook. Solid big fish on and then stap. Reeled up, broke 40lb braid  :smt013 . I must of nicked/frayed it earlier or something. I end the day with a 22, 23 and a 27" ling. Kept the 27" but didn't check it in. "Yur first ur yur last... Ricky Bobby"

Great weather and good NCKA folks, some new some old hanging out. See you guys next year with new braid! :smt044

PS - What a monster, right on Jim.

Thanks Allen and thank you to MBk and the ocean kayak  folks

Amy said she had SO MUCH FUN--she was very happy she went and this was the first event she pretty much launched and fished and landed without too much help etc

Congrats to all who fished and to the placers...mt friends had a blast and will be yearly now--I have a few pics---post em in a second
