Especially with the current management regime; all they do is surf the internet, shopping on Amazon for hunting gear! 

I worked for the PO for almost 5 years. ABSOLUTELY worst job I ever had. They screw you over any chance they get. Had my pay cut $2 an hour for almost a year before I finally got it back. Had to work through my lunches many times, no breaks. Horrible medical/dental/vision plans. I wouldn't recommend it

I second the sentiment. Spent 10 years as a city carrier and while I loved MOST of the time spent on the street the hours in the office under the whip-cracking supervisors was pure hell. (The days when it was pouring cold rain while I was lugging 6 trays of letters and 10 trays of flats weren't any fun either. Fuck you, Potpourri) Sure, that was a LONG time ago, but I know it's only gotten worse. My sister's been a clerk for over 20 years now and hates it. My dad was a carrier/204B/supervisor/manager...ended up director of finance for the region. (Now you can see why me and sis ended up at usps) Dad died in 1999 at way too young an age. I tell you, quitting the PO & taking a huge wage/benefit cut to become a part-time karate instructor was the best thing I ever did. Other than marrying my wife, and learning to fish from a kayak of course. 

On an unrelated note, Hi NCKA! Been gone way too long, and my yaks are bone dry. Need to do some serious fishing this year to make up for it.

I worked part time for the USPS for 4 years and it paid for my undergraduate education. For that I have always been thankful. It was also my first exposure to government employment/workers. Let's just say I would not work for the government after that experience. The stuff that went on was crazy and terribly inefficient. I went on to work the letter sorting machine and liked the solitude.

... and terribly inefficient.

We are still battling the mentality with employees. Hard to break a culture that has been ingrained for sooo looonnnnggg...

But we have come along way since I started back in 1999... in some areas we are more efficient; in others, we still need some alot of work.

Either way, i still get paid!

On an unrelated note, Hi NCKA! Been gone way too long...

And this is how you make your return, ditch the organization that gets me all my toys...

  Oh, I ditched them looooong ago...it's just such a bitter memory that it seems like only yesterday. I bid farewell to the PO in 1991, back when I was 10 pounds lighter and didn't have a single gray hair. Unlike today...my beard has more white than anything it seems. 

... and terribly inefficient.
