In those bigger ones, their worms would probably qualify for the current minimum Lingcod size

There's definitely some depth-perception issues with this pic...not quite the level of fishsniffer status though.

Only however much you could get without sinking the boat and drowning.

Wow,,,,          Around 74  I was snorkeling  when I saw my first Ling up close and personal.   It must have been 5' long, scared the hell out of me,  looked like it could just about swallow me whole.     I've never seen one that big since.

That photo is inspirational... not only because of the huge lings, but because those guys kept their neck ties on.... as well as the vest and likely that sweet, sweet bowler hat.  Who said fishing wasn't classy?

Depth perception aside, those big lings are bigger than any of the trophy lings pulled in Alaska today. Just compare the lings to each other. If the "smaller" lings are around 28" and 15lbs (to be conservative, judging by their shape and proportions) the big ones are well over 40" and significantly heavier than a modern ling of that length. The second from the left has the same proportions as the 38.5" in my avatar, and that's dwarfed by the big ones!

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

People aren’t supposed to look back. I’m certainly not going to do it anymore.”
