Heres a thread you might have missed, although its not length specific it does give you an idea of what people are using.

I looked through that. I wanted something length specific. Also some people have more than one yak.

I was wondering that if I wanted to go ocean fishing if maybe I needed a longer yak than 13'. Since the 13'ers doubled any others I guess not.  :smt001

What is the 16+ft kayak that 9 people supposedly use as their "main ocean kayak"? I'm guessing the Hobie Adventure.
I voted 13 to 13'11" because I mainly use a Hobie Revolution. I DO have a 15.5ft Ultra 4.7 but it is not my "main ocean kayak."

Yes, a Hobie Adventure (now known as Revolution 16) for me.

No, not really. I saw that too. That's about manufactures, not length.

It just seems to me that that when ocean fishing one one cover more distance; therefore more paddling would be involved. So I'm curious if a longer yak is a necessity. I realize it's nice to have but it doesn't seem to be a requirement.

It seems like a 13' yak is just fine. I'm curious because I can put a 13' yak in the bed of my truck just fine. Anything longer and I either need a bed extender or a trailer. I really don't have storage room for a trailer.

Tarpon 160.
I remember when salty got his 16' Hobie. He told me he finally understood why I was on a 16' Tarpon. So much smoother easier to move than anything shorter. I use that boat everywhere and I have 12 different kayaks at home. All 3 yrs old or newer. 11.5'-12'-13.5'-14'-15.5'-16'.

You'd be fine fishing a 13 footer, but don't let the convenience factor limit your decision. You can car top a 16' yak just as easily as a 13, maybe even easier because the length gives a less severe angle as you tilt it up onto the racks.
