Hi fellow members,
I am at a crossroad on what fishing line to spool. I just bought a Lews Bb2 inshore for this coming summer. I am not sure what line to spool with. Any input will be great.

I'd go 30 or 40 pound with 20 pound leader - all mono.

Lingcods mainly. Rock fish and halibuts if they do bite

And how long of a leader? Has anyone using braid lost their fish/bait/lure to rocks? Braid does not do well with rocks from my experice

What I do is I dont use top shot or any leader on my reel.instead I tie 2' 30# mono on all my jigs and lures and hooks.that way its easier for me to tie and switch lures .I use 50# power pro

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Dune12 that reminds me of one of my buddy, allen. When he jigs for salmon, he has multiple parts with snap swivels on. He'll change them interchangeably and quickly when he wants to change to a different jig

I use 30# braid ending with a swivel snap and then 25# mono leaders about 3 ft long.  Hangups almost always break off at a mono knot.  That's my max for a yak, breaking off anything more than 25-30# in a yak is uncomfortable for me.

My avatar fish was caught with 30# braid, and a 60# mono leader (for abrasion) made for a long fight but that's the fun part.

Dale hits the key here. One wants to be comfortable breaking off snagged terminal gear in a kayak especially offshore. 25 to maybe 40 pound test depending on yak stability seem to be the range. I just brought some 80# Power Pro braid mainly for abrasion resistance on tall rock structure. Not all jigging is perfectly vertical. Sometimes, be it current or wind, the yak gets pushed to fast and the mainline rubs rock outcrops. I'm thinking the thicker diameter of 80 compared to 50 will offer more line protection.

I have seen that some people use jigs for lingcods up to 8 oz jigs due to weather or current. I'm guess i would need a bigger rod like a ugly stick tiger for salt water purposes too and not just a normal inshore rod.
So I assume anywhere from 30# -80# braided with a mono leader that they're comfortable with is what most people use in the ocean?

No not necessarily true.remember when bottom fishing your (most of the time) just dropping it straight down not casting it so your rod will handle a lit more weight. Ive dropped 12oz jigs on my trevala s medium on the heavy current.

I would need to get a bigger rod to handle heavy weights. My phenix rod can't handle heavy weights like that.

What were you fishing for, dune12?

I fish 30 - 40lb braid with a 10' - 20'  top shot of stiff 17lb mono.
