I'm guessing it has to do with that big of a hole in what is probably thinner more flexible material.
I have a feeling it's the opposite. The UL material is probable less flexible and more brittle than standard rotomolded poly SOTs. The smaller hatches provide higher structural integrity with less flexability (and less likely to crack/break). But that's just a guess.

Pat,
The new Thresher center hatch sits low enough, at least for me, to not bother my legs like the tridents or Ultras do. I have not seen a UL in person so I did not know the center angled hatch would hold a rod. Thanks for the info.
Hey Rob ... what's the good word on the paddling difference between the 140 & 155 Thresher?  Sorry for the threadjack....

Put more time on the 140 last weekend and I'm starting to like it more and more. I have a 155 being dropped at my house this week sometime so I will be on it soon. May take it Sat to Timber Cove.

One way or the other, it's probably related to the UL material. I didn't look like it has gear tracks either.

That 155 sounds just my size, if it's there I'd like to see it.  :smt007
:smt004 I wonder if Brenda will charge me to paddle it? I know, I know sarcasm doesn't work on the Internet.  :smt005 but seriously I'm glad WS is releasing new boats. Innovation and specialization are good for all of us. :smt006

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

People aren’t supposed to look back. I’m certainly not going to do it anymore.”

Well now that you mention it, Rob. I haven't seen the new ULs in person either. So I was just assuming the center hatch would be angled (like the T140 & 160). But it's hard to tell based on all the pics I see online.
Come on, you can fit a rod in the center hatch? Didn't notice that it was "angled" that much.
Must be really flexible or have a short handle, you remove the reel right?
**** a bunch of that.

Not a good boat for beginners, you need to have decent balance. Don't paddle directly into waves with it, tends to cut in rather than ride over. Low in the water, kinda wet, but low in the water also means you don't get blown around in the wind.
Hull is thick and ridged so it doesn't flex under a load (and hopefully not when bit [emoji51]). Its a trade off between capacity, weight, strength, width, stability, speed and price (and some other stuff).
The T160 is a fine yak and looks great IMO, but it could be even better with improved stowage for the rods!

Not really offended.

Maybe you have nervous friends. My tarpon does cut through rather than ride over the chop. I've got to be close to the weight rating on mine when I load up four crab traps, bait and the rest of my gear. It is wet in front and back, but I stay dry.
