Where to try out Hobies?

Is there a dealer within reasonable distance of Grass Valley where I can try out Hobies?  I'm in the market for a fishing kayak and have it narrowed down to a Pro Angler or an Outback.  I'd like to try them out, but it's about $100 a day to rent one locally.  That's a couple hundred I could put toward outfitting my new kayak.

California Canoe & Kayak in Racjho Cordova will be launching the Hobie First Cast program in the near future and you would be able to try out a couple different models and the money spent to participate would go towards your kayak purchase. I will be talking to Jeff the Mgr in a little while and I will see if we can work something out to get you on the water sooner if you'd like.

Show up to one of our many events & you are more than likely to have every Hobie model representing.  Most of us would allow you to take it for a spin too

I just spoke with CCK and if you rent a hobie to demo the rental fee will go towards the purchase. The problem is they are waiting on Hobie to get the 2015 Demo PA 14 in.

I agree with Bill if you would just like to try out the Hobies you can possibly make it to a hook up but there are not a lot of 2015 models out there yet.

The new model outback is one I want to try.  I'm interested in the Vantage seat of the 2015.

With the Pro Angler, I don't mind a previous model.

They have a demo 2015 outback in store right now but have alrady sold their 2014 PA demos.

Try Headwaters Adventures in Redding on one of their "Hobie First Fish" events.  Actually test the PR while fishing.

The First Cast program is a pretty sweet deal.  For $100 you get a guided 1/2 day of fishing off 2015 Hobies, lunch/snacks, and if you end up buying a yak the fee is applied to your purchase. We just completed our first "First Cast" event, with a fleet of a PA 17, two PA 14's, a PA 12, and two Outbacks, all 2015 models.  Our next event is scheduled for February 28th up at Baum lake, outside of Burney.  If you'd like to get in on it just call the shop, there's still room but it's filling up.

We'll be running March's program on Shasta, and April will be at Black Butte.  If there is enough interest from other areas we can look at adding dates/locations, feel free to shoot me or AnglerDangler a PM if that's something anyone might be interested in.

Adventure Mountain Sports in Sacramento has the full line of Hobie kayaks available to demo. Worth the drive to try them out on the water.

I drove from Monterey to Oakland to be able to try different models on the water and drove back again to pick up the two Revo 13's I bought. Round trip distance was 190 miles for each trip.

I tried to do a demo with the Hobie dealer in Santa Cruz but the owner was a royal pain to even talk to and his focus is on his rental business as he told me after I had waited several weeks for him to get kayaks in stock to demo but which he refused to demo on the weekend and on Monday the Revo had been sold. Vastly different experience with the people at California Canoe and Kayak in Oakland.

The Hobie dealer in Santa Cruz & Moss Landing is a HUGE supporter of NCKA & it's members!  It is quite a drive for you to so I would suggest supporting a local Hobie dealer for just this reason.  If you do find yourself down this way, then Santa Cruz is a GREAT place to come try Hobie Kayaks!
