Adventure Mountain Sports in Sacramento has the full line of Hobie kayaks available to demo. Worth the drive to try them out on the water.

I drove from Monterey to Oakland to be able to try different models on the water and drove back again to pick up the two Revo 13's I bought. Round trip distance was 190 miles for each trip.

I tried to do a demo with the Hobie dealer in Santa Cruz but the owner was a royal pain to even talk to and his focus is on his rental business as he told me after I had waited several weeks for him to get kayaks in stock to demo but which he refused to demo on the weekend and on Monday the Revo had been sold. Vastly different experience with the people at California Canoe and Kayak in Oakland.
From what I recall, you were an unreasonable jack ass to the owner of Kayak Connection.  So stop it already. Im sick of it.  Read for yourself, and decide for yourself.  http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=55989.30

What Al said.

Please don't do yourself a disservice by listening to one disgruntled individual.

Kayak connection is a quality store. Dave and Jess Grigsby are great people who have been extremely generous and supportive of NCKA in many ways.

Sincerely,

Jim

Elkhornsun ... enough already.  You had a bad experience.  You've aired it here.  Fine.  But the dozens of followups with the same message are being construed as malicious and vindictive, neither of which is considered appropriate here at NCKA.  No more please.

My Partner (above) and I take turns being mature and reasonable when it comes to admin/moderating on NCKA.  Looks like he is taking the high road this time.  Please heed the friendly, non-confrontational reminder.

Assignment:  Read http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=16447.0

Start at page 1.

Gosh I sound mature and reasonable too!  Perhaps I should reveal a portion of my bias.

I fucking LOVE Kayak Connection, The Owners, Dave and Jessica, the Former owners Mark and Margaret, and pretty much everyone who works there now, or has EVER worked there in the past.  this includes my wife who tour guided starting in 2000, got me my first fishing kayak from KC, created the connection and eventually resulted in my long-time involvement with Ocean Kayaks. Oh, I might also mention the high-school jobs both my daughter and (currently) my son have as dock rats and store-sweepers at KC.  I have worked directly with them doing fishing clinics for years, now turned over to their in-house kayak fisherman Squidbly.  (Another guy I love.  In a totally manly way not that theres anything wrong with that))

Long before there were "Fish and Chills," GS#'s, Salmon Slams, RedBarn Classics, PIF's etc etc etc, Kayak Connection was sponsoring the get together derbies that got so many of us started in kayak fishing.  I will conclude with a quote from another OG who says it best:

MX21,

I would follow Mike (wingshooter) advice & check out that location in Grass Valley.  The rest of this thread will take you to a place in time you'd rather not go.   :smt002

I picked up a kayak yesterday.  I'm now anxious to get on the water with my Pro Angler 12!  :fishing2

Thanks for the recommendations!

So to relate my experiences with a business owner accurately is kicking some sacred cow. Truly amazing how people can think that there experience is typical or even relevant.

My wife and I wanted to test the Hobie Outback and the Hobie Revo 13. We waited 3 weeks for the owner to get the two models into the store. We were told on a Friday that they were both in but that they did not do demos on the weekend. On Monday we drove 45 minutes to get to the store, having taken time off from our business, and then we were told one of the boats was sold. The owner said he was in the rental business so no big deal.

Would someone please post a relevant experience where you were able to schedule a demo with the store and where you were able to try out two or more Hobie kayaks. If not then shut up!
