Oh  God Damn!  I would love to be back on campus  with or without a kayak.   :smt003   Great idea.

Well what is keeping you from being "back on campus?"  You have your degree already?

Great idea! My son loves to fish and has been out a few times via kayak - I don't know if he's on this site yet, but he's up at Butte College.

So what college are you attending, Wes?

Right On!  Give him the info and tell him he needs to form a team of 3 people (including himself).

It's never too late to go back!

Oh heck no! Got a bachelors in Environmental Studies from UCSC a loooong time ago, then went back and got a Masters in Social Work from SJSU in 2005.

Both degrees opened up a lot of doors for me personally and professionally, but no way am I going back again...plus I still haven't finished paying off my student loans!  :smt005  :smt010 :smt044

My wife is getting her Masters right now in Educational Leadership so I get to be Mr. Mom with my daughters while she goes to class and studies.

Jim

Just to follow up and touch base with a few...

Those of you that are in school and have started the semester, have you had a chance to chat it up with anyone about participating?

Side note:

Does anyone have any good ideas for spreading awareness?  Ways that I could try to get more people involved?  I have limited resources available to me, but would like as much input and ideas as possible.

Does anyone have contacts with the following schools and/or their fishing teams/clubs?  I have sent emails and Facebook posted/messaged all of them, but I haven't received responses from these schools.

Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo)
Cal State Long Beach
Cal State Monterey Bay
Chico State
Fresno State
Humbolt State
Sonoma State
UC Davis
UC Santa Cruz
University of the Pacific

Note: These are schools with established fishing clubs/teams

Side note:

I've been in touch with Sonoma State, but I received this response:

I really like your idea of doing some kayak tournaments, however not one person on my team has a kayak unfortunately.  Thank you for including us in your search and all of us here at Sonoma State wish you the best of luck.

I replied with the response explaining how these events will have kayaks available provided by local dealers, but I haven't had a response yet.  I am wondering if they may be dominated by powerboat fisherman who aren't interested in kayak fishing. I'd like to some how convince them, if they aren't interested.

I'd be willing to guess that many of the students on campus already have a kayak or access to one.  The promotional benefits alone of using a kayak at an campus promotional day in the quad in bright colors  sitting on a table and or standing straight up in the air (if on a stand or leaning against a wall) can be a great tool. Much better than just a table with a couple of rods, reels, and tackle.

I have received positive responses with interested from Sacramento State and San Jose State.

If someone here has a connection to this team  or any others and could talk with them about it, I would most certainly would appreciate it.

Cold beer
Hot chicks
Free swag.

Not necessarily in that order.

Match the hatch, right?

I like your thinking, but I don't thing that is feasible!  The first two are probably a no go (half college aged kids can't legally drink).  Hot chicks usually want to be paid, but I'm don't have the budget (budget of $0 currently).  Free swag is the only thing that we will probably have, but not until the interest is high enough and probably not until the day of the actual event.

There is a cost to "Free Chicks".  That cost may or may not require a doctor!
Hot beer... Um no thanks.
Cold Swag... Largely depends on why it is "Cold"
