Actually today was good...then bad...then good.  The weather was nice, the wind was blowing downstream it was all good.  Then at lunch I remembered the keys to the downstream car were in the upstream car...and then both yaks started to leak. The phone I needed to call for assistance was locked in the downstream car...Doh!

When I got down stream, I picked the door lock with a live oak branch, liberated the cell, and we got rescued.  Celebrated with a refresco at the Jimtown store.  In the end, I was just disappointed in the low redd count, the fish are still low in the river.  :smt012

Fuzz-  Its tragically ez, doesn't work on all cars, but I was in the 2005 Ford Ranger in under a minute. The doors need to have lift style handles, and push up/down door locks

1) Lift the door handle, and look under it, there are usually two holes where the handle mechanism goes through the door skin

2) Determine which hole is closer to being vertically under the door lock button.

3) Trim down a limber yet stiff branch/twig that will fit in the hole (one with an arch or kink can be the ticket for going around obstacles)

4) Push it upwards towards the bottom of the door lock button

5) Wiggle and/or twirl the stick until you see the lock button moving from contact...push vertically to push the lock button back up into the unlocked position.  This may take several tries.

6) If it doesn't work try the other hole

7) If that doesn't work, a twig with a fork can sometimes be used to grab the rod that acuates the lock button.  Onced forked, twist the twig to open.

Sounds crude, but if the door has this setup, and there is nothing internally blocking things, it works surprisingly well.  Enjoy!

I would think there wouldn't be enough water for redd-building yet.  Is that the main stem Russian?

Mechanic/machinist/fabricator.  At some point in the 80's toyota mini-trucks were recalled becuase the hole alignment was so ez you could unlock the door with a pencil in seconds.  As an apprentice I had the esteemed priviledge of  installing a zillion "blockers" that interuppted the path. Apparently Ford/Mazda never got the memo  :smt003 ...which saved my a$$!

Got to chuckle at the ingenuity!   I'd worry about the detailed instructions, but I'm sure the crooks know that stuff already.   A Chippy told me years ago that my Toyota could be opened with a sucker stick, so I started using the Club - now I know what he was talking about. With my luck, I've got to ask:  When the stick breaks off in the hole, how much bigger is the repair bill?

Hahaha!

I discovered this "secret" trick 2 summers ago when I accidentally dropped my wife's [then girlfriend] keys (to her Ranger) into Lake San Antonio. D'OH!
I used a wire coat hanger that was brought for smores.

And she still married me!

Thanks for the Great story,
PK
