All,

Here is the deal.  I agonized for days about how to make the tournament functional with two species as the target and just could not come up with a rule system that satisfied me.  Thus, this tournament will be single largest striper.

Details of the tournament:

Entry: $10 (I will get a paypal deal set up with Bill soon)
Date: Sunday, November 19th
Time: Safe light until 1pm
Location: O'niell Forebay of the San Louis Resevoir
Winner:  Single heaviest striper
Prize:  Name stitched into the tie-dye chefs hat and bragging rights

Lots of people are going to show up on Saturday for camping and prefishing (some even on Friday apparently).

BBQ Saturday night (and fish fry hopefully) bring your dead animals to grill up and your favorite beverage to go with it.

As usuall, everthing is debatable.  Hope to see you there.

I assume we will be at Medieros. Will it be artificials only or live bait too?

I'm trying to get a hold of Mooch about the camping/weigh in site.

Live bait is acceptable in this tournament.

Is it going to be a virtual tourny?

Hey People,

You should look at camping at the family camp sites on the other side.  Do not know all the rules about this site.  But, it should hold about 30 people and is wind protected.  Better bathrooms and everybody does not have to park and walk back to the campsites.

If people are cool with it, I don't think I would have a problem.

All,

Just a couple of notes about the tournament.

If you are going to camp, please chime in so we can get an apporximate head count so the early arrivers can stake out a claim.

Also, I've never been there so any suggestions as to where we should camp would be welcome....Marmot?

Additionally, word on the news last night was that a storm window was opening.  Be sure to check here friday night/saturday morning for word if the tournament gets canceled.  I will post go/no go.

Finally, I forgot to add that we use the honor system for those that want to catch and release their fish.  Bring your scale that measures pounds and ounces and weigh your fish before you release it.  We trust you.  Digi photo on the scale is even better but not necesary.

Marmot, do you remember the campsite # where the Fly-Fishing derby was held not too long ago? I think it's a great spot.
Mol, just a suggestion, why don't we go by lenght rather than weight....and if there's a tie, we go for the weight (I'm sure we can have one "official scale" on stand by).

Just a thought :smt002

I'll be there Saturday Morning - count me in as a "camper"  :camp

I prefer weight, but we can go length if that is what the majority want to do......election day and all that...

I will be on my way to Washington the 18 and the 19. And will miss this tournament extremely sorry about however I will be there sometime this week end, not sure which day. Please be Conservative with your catches.

Another time MolBasser.
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.

Camping Options:

1) Madeiros Rec Area (off SR 33): uminrpoved campsites, no water, potta-potties some shelter from wind in some sites, a few site offer a ramada to shade.
First-come, first served and Park Service doesn't assigned numbered sites--you grab what you can.
    $6 per car day use
$10 per car overnight (incloude day use)

2) San Luis Creek Area (where operational baot ramp and swimmign area is--off SR 152):
    two options:

    1) Group camp: accomodates 30 people and 10 cars included in $66 per night cost. Large BBq area, covered shelter, flush toilets, pay showers.
Additional vehicles $10 overnight, $6 day use. Electical but no dumping station or RV spaces.

    2) Family camps: accomodate 8 people, no limit on cars but only about 4 will fit--rangers will ticket if on road: $20 (no car passes)
Vehicle pastteh 3 04 4 $10 night or $6 day use. Eletrical hookups nd dumpign for RVs

My 2-cents: if we want to do a big affair sometime, like the BAM, with accompanying logistic commitments, the group site is the way to go. But for an adhoc tourney two weeks away, we may want to camp at Madeiros like the fly fishers did. It worked out fine. $10 for the tourney, $10 for parking overnight. Fish on!

My two-cents about the rules:

1) non-virtual: since the Forebay is heavily fished, gives Mendo anglers a clear advantage and I'll just head to Mendo then. Sorry Mickfish--but I want to think I have a chance at winning even if I don't win in the end. With Mendo in the tourney, chances for a Forebay fish winning are slim to none.

2) weight: since Striped Bass are school fish, we may have a lot of close fish at weigh-in, unless someone brings a micrometer and we argue about where in the tail to measure, a digital scale is a much more objective judge. Most of hte fish reported onteh baord here are 16", 18", 21" or 22". Like I said--school fish in class sizes.
