Do you happen to know if they're going to phase out HDI in favor of CHIRP? (and I'm kinda surprised they are adding a new DSI-only unit; albiet the Elite 3 size)

It appears, for now, that the HDI will remain going into 2015.  The CHIRP models have the HDI built into the CHIRP functions.  I will see if I can get some clarification on the HDI continuance this weekend.

I too was VERY surprised to see a DSI model come back as well as a new B&W model.  I honestly figured that, by 2015, the world of B&W units would be near gone.  Guess ther eis still a need/market for them.

Other new'ish items to their lineup is the small boat autopilots available in either rotary cable steer or single helm hydraulic.  The units operate using the HDS Gen 2/3 touch screen units!  Finally a way to add affordable autopilot to a small boat!

Lastly, the Motorguide Xi5 trolling motor integration.  This motor has options for foot and/or remote key fob control AS WELL AS integration with the Lowrance Gen 2/3 touch screen units for operation of the trolling motor from your multifunction unit.  I've had this trolling motor on my boat for the better part of a year now & it is a wonderful motor.  Can't wait to unlock some of its hidden features of operation from the HDS series unit!  Heading to an undisclosed location this weekend to play with some of the 2015 model units.  Can't wait!  I'll be sure to share, what I can, following this meeting.

Chirp contains hdi in it.  Same transducer.  Do yourself a favor and upgrade.  Based on things we saw yesterday at a lowrance training event for pro staff, chirp is WELL worth the upgrade.  When I get to a computer I'll share s little more info.

Just to clarify. If we have a current HDI unit can you buy a new transducer to upgrade to Chirp or is the software/head unit different.

The processor in the chirp head unit is the difference.  No way to upgrade.  If you purchased a unit recently, you have 30 days to exchange if desired.  I would go chirp in a heartbeat!

Great, I'm well past 30 days.  I just get my Elite 4 HDI installed, not even tried on the water and it's a dinosaur and I should get a CHIRP.
Lowrance has a trade in program, right?  Ha!

I don't know if they are shipping the Elite 4 CHIRP yet.  Somehow I THINK they don't ship till after the first of the year but I may be wrong.

As for trade in ... they have the 30 day return/exchange thru Lowrance.  It may be longer thru the retailer you bought it thru.  West Marine still has a 'no hassle guarantee which basically means you can exchange at any time.  Online retailers ????  I believe if your older unit dies or has a problem, I think Lowrance will give you the option to upgrade for a small fee or get the same unit (if available).

I'm still in the world of HDI too so I am in-line to upgrade as well for 2015!  You're not alone!

The world of Lowrance in 2015 seems to have a focus on changing all the Elite units over to CHIRP and the new HDS series too!

No hassle guarantee ??

I have been going through a nigtmare with West Marine in San Carlos.

I bought the Elite-7 Chirp , with the product plus protection plan.

HUGE Mistake. GPS doesn't work and they won't let me exchange it or return it.

Worst customer service experience of my life.  I wish I never walked into a West Marine or been unfortunate enough to get stuck with a faulty unit.
