As I work on the presentation this week, I will post up a draft of topics to be covered in the first seminar.  Remember, this will not be a 'kayak exclusive' seminar like the last few have been so there will be some stuff in there not totally specific to kayaks but hopefully fun & informative for those who own boats too.  Some stuff like HDS series units, network systems, wireless technology, radar, deep water & CHIRP technology, autopilot & I'm sure some more stuff.  Since I am treating this as an 'Intro' class, I won't dive deep into specific settings, etc.  I will get more into that come the second, third, fourth, etc... class.

For those not able to make it to SC for this class, I will repeat the class in other cities/locations.  The hardest part is making up the PowerPoint presentation & such but once I get it done, it's easy to repeat & revise on the fly for other locations!

Would love to have some of my NCKA peeps @ the S.C. event to make me feel at home  :smt002

Also consider adding Insight demos and tech tips to the 2/3/4 if you get the chance.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

Yes & No.

We are working on an Insight class.  I would LOVE to do an actual DEMO but this would require us to record some time on the water (which can be done ahead of time) & upload (wifi required & possible), wait for the map to come back to us (isn't instant after you upload ... can take a day or more at peak times ... I can "pre-upload" something & wait to extract it at the class ... so plausible) & see before & after effects.  So, yes ... possible.  My only hesitant factor is that the Insight is still in its "infancy".  I, myself, am waiting for it to hit its early childhood before making any more attempts to push it hard for the group.  What will it take for it to grow?  Funny, but it will take more participants so it's a catch 22.  I'm waiting for a little dust to settle around it ... maybe a little later in the year.

Yes, it will be done.  No, not in the next couple of months.  Part of this also has to do with the ratio of Lowrance owners with Insight compatible units.  We still have a lot of folks with the earlier models of Elite.

Can someone record this and post it to YouTube?  Be helpful to people for away or schedule conflict.

Using technology to learn technology?
My god, that idea might just be crazy enough to work!

No ... not taking the seminars to YouTube.  If/when I work on some online classes, and the thought/concepts/gear/etc IS in works, then I will release them to YouTube at that time.

Sorry guys & gals :smt009

Just a reminder ... the first in a series of Lowrance seminars will kick off THIS MONTH!!!  Thursday, March 26 in Santa Cruz @ West Marine!  If you are in the market for a 'first fishfinder or ff/gps' or thinking about replacing/upgrading, this will be the FREE seminar you will want to attend.  The next seminars will start to dive more into fishfinder settings, gps settings, installation, radar, networking, etc.....

What we WILL cover:  Overview of the units, capabilities, a little about installation/setup & add-on extra items from the 4.3" B&W units to the 12" Color HDS multi-function display units!  More details as I work on completing the presentation.

<bump>

Coming up a week from tomorrow!  Presentation is nearly complete.  TONS of stuff to show!  Looking forward to it yet again.

For those out of the area folks ... I've got a few bay area locations in works to showcase the same presentation as future presentations so standby.  The Santa Cruz one next week is my kickoff & a trial run following a couple good seminars last year.

Thanks everyone!

Bill

I have the 26th on the calander and will bring in my unit. Stoked as this unit came with the yak. I have looked at on line info but would really like some hands on advice.

Anything in the Bay Area coming up? East bay or peninsula? Just picked up the 5 chirp and would love to actually know how to use it.

Soon.  I'll know more once I run thru the first seminar later this week.  Once that one launches, I'll start scheduling the same seminars to happen in the bay area.
