I just paddled over all of that all day!  It's a trip to look at that map and think of all the places I've caught fish there.  The Cove rules.

I'll have to get me some of them fancy maps at some point.   :smt003

Keep on studying.
How close is the course to the one you recomended to get out to the red marker?

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

I didnt fish the tourney in the storm (GS6?) And likewise will sit out heavy fog/high seas and such if it happens this year. I am there for the experience of Shelter Cove, and if I get to kayak fish, that is great. I will have my boy at my hip, and wont risk fishing and endangering him in bad conditions. (Or myself) :smt006

Traildad - that deliberate of a route is not needed.  The bigger point is knowing where to avoid going.

i still remember the first time i headed out from the cove. We were heading out and it was clear and when we got close to the buoy/bell we were blanketed by very thick fog. It just came out of no where and the only thing you can use to navigate was the gps off my fish finder. Even if it looks nice out it can turn in a couple of minutes/hours so come prepared.

Yup ! I don't leave home without my hand held GPS unit. It has come in handy countless times where the fog and cloud cover have rolled in and unable to see land. Minimal would be a compass. Preferably would be GPS.  Most importantly as well. FRESH BATTERIES !!! :smt001
Looking to upgrade to a fishfinder, gps unit.  :smt001. No I haven't pulled the trigger yet fishing for the cure ( Bill ).  :smt002

Damm !!! read over 20k times. Someones excited ! :smt003

Just buy the Navionics app for your phone.  It's cheap and that's what the maps looks like.  It's also works as a backup gps.

So will Navionics work even if your cell phone doesn't up there?

Yes.  It works off of the GPS in your phone, not wifi or cell signals.

For anyone that wants to have a cell phone for shelter cove, Wal Mart sells prepaids for <$15 that will give 40 minutes of talk time.  Get a verizon phone.

Not sure.  I'd imagine that the free version doesn't have the community edits and probably doesn't have the 1' contour intervals.

Going and hanging out  is where it's at, you won't  miss much by not being registered.  Plus you can still  get in on the raffle,  at least I think you can :smt003

Verizon has spotty connection otw, but I can still manage to post live reports on Facebook.  US cellular works the best at the Cove since they bought the local company Redwood cellular.
