Verizon has spotty connection otw, but I can still manage to post live reports on Facebook.  US cellular works the best at the Cove since they bought the local company Redwood cellular.
Don't the cell companies still have roaming? I guess you would need the same kind of service that US Cellular uses.

So will Navionics work even if your cell phone doesn't up there?
I just tested it on my phone. I put the phone in airplane mode which turns off cell service, cellular data, wifi etc. it still showed my location. So with GPS on my Ff, Navionics Boating app, hand held GPS, radio with GPS and a compass, I should at least be able to figure out which way up is.  :smt044

ATT doesn't work at all, verizon iphones do though.  I have no idea how roaming works anymore, but if you have ATT you will not get reception at the cove.

I got 1x service last year on Verizon. Very slow and spotty reception

Who is still going to be around and fishing on Sunday?

I can't make the tournie, but thinking I might jam up there after the Rose Parade on Saturday, camp, and fish Sunday.

Dude!  If the ocean's nice then get your butt up there after your son's gig.  There'll be a bunch of diehards hanging out, milking the Cove for every last bit of love on the water and off.  Would be great to see you even if you can't be there for Saturday, Dustin.   :smt001

Sunday is usually my morning to decompress from all the event buildup.  Last year I was one of the first to launch Sunday, and I enjoyed some amazing water a mile out past the Whistle, where I basked in sunshine, solitude and the awesome feeling of having pulled off a good gig.  Got the family shipped off back to Loleta midday and then enjoyed bumming around the Cove visiting with friends and a great dinner together that night.

Monday we got up early and about 30 of us did the Hike and Dive up to Gitchell Creek where only four of us Humboldt locals got any abs, but one was a ten incher, and we all had fun doing 6 miles in the sand.  This year we'll do another Hike and Dive on Monday, so join in on that if you want to.

I'm hoping to hang out through at least Tuesday, and if the ocean's flat and the salmon are biting I might stay the entire week!   :smt005
