Try to match the size & weight of the stock hooks...or you could make the lure unbalanced, then it won't have the right action.

I like the round bend hooks not really partial to brand they are made in different weights so you can match the weight of your stock hooks. Some have a short shank so I use a oval instead of a split ring. I just bought some of the VMC inline they look like they might work well with cranks. More importantly how are you wearing out hooks? :smt002
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

I switch all my Irons from treble hooks to singles. I seem to not snag the bottom or kelp as much and the same amount of fish. But that is just me and Irons.

From a brand standpoint, I have heard great things on VMC. I recently bought a bunch of Owner hooks, and really like them.

Gamakatsu or owner hooks but they can get a little pricy
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Replacing the worn out stock hooks on some of my fresh and salt water lures ... Any input/recommendations on brands ,Thanks Vic

If they are just worn out, why not sharpen them?

For freshwater lures, I have a couple of those 20+ packs of size 6 and 4 Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp trebles that I'll swap out on Kastmasters, spinners, plugs, etc.  They're cheap hooks, but they're sharp and get the job done.  As soon as they start to dull, I swap them out with fresh hooks.  I think you can get a 20 pack for less than five bucks.

I'll typically increase the hook sizes on Kastmasters and spinners, but like Cen Coast and Mickfish mentioned, be sure to match the weight of new hooks with those of the old hooks on plugs and light spoons.  Heavier hooks can kill the action on these lures.
