Hi, my name is Matt. I recently moved to pacific grove in monterey. I am an avid high sierra fly fisherman. Now that I live on the coast I am trying to get into the kayak ocean fishing scene. I am looking for a decent yak, doesn't need to be perfect but something workable. I have firearms for trade if anyone is interested. Anyway, enough advertising.  Hopefully I can get a yak before rockfish closes. If not I will have to wait till may. Please if anyone has a line on a good kayak let me know, also if anyone needs a fishing buddy in Pacific Grove I am down to go. Thanks
I only fish on days that end with Y

Welcome Matt! Keep your eyes on Craigslist, there's good deals from time to time if you're looking for a used one. Also once you get to ten posts on this forum you can scope out the classified ads, also a great place to find bargains. I'll keep my ear to the street and if I come across anything I'll definitely let you know. Good to have another future kayak angler in the area! Hope to see you on the water soon, Monterey Bay chapter of NCKA is the best :smt006

Right on Matt. Where'd you move from? Not many river flyfishing options around here, but there's a few secret spots.
If you want to learn about kayak fishing or the local fishing scene, you're in the right place! Lots of guys on here have spare kayaks, so you m/b able to borrow one and fish with someone before Dec 31 (when ocean fishing from a boat/yak essentially closes, except for perch & sanddabs). That's the best way to learn too...fish with someone who has done it all before...saves some trial & error and expedites your learning curve.
But make sure to learn about marine forecasts and proper safety gear too. Here's some safety info: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=27534.0

Welcome aboard.  Learn to spearfish.  The season is open all year for the few that go that route.
