"The Santa Cruz net pen project has been terminated by the Santa Cruz Harbor District."

HMMM

The elite didn't want to encourage an undesirable element by planting salmon for children to catch.I'm so surprised. :smt011

It IS so sad....

Directors for Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout project have been working very very hard to keep the net pen project going in the Harbor.  Especially Bob Anderson and Larry Wolf.  There are additional details of which I am aware, but unable to share at this time.  Let me just say, as a member of the Board of Directors MBSTP, that the Harbor's stance is not entirely without merit, and there are alternatives being researched right now.

Bottom line, we WILL continue to release salmon smolts in the Monterey Bay, though the location and the numbers of smolt may be different.  (We might all be fishing the Santa Cruz Wharf in three years.)

Would Moss be feasible?

The harbor could use the increased traffic, better parking options, the fur bags could mop up all the floaters......and they're already used to seeing riff raff hangin around all day :)

I thought about Moss Landing, but the smolts might have to battle it out with hungry stripers.

It pisses me off that this issue is coming to a head over the happenings at the back of the harbor for just a couple months a year. It's SOOOO much bigger than that.

-Let's start a program to supplement dwindling salmon populations...and provide more recreational fishing opportunities for anglers.
-Uh oh, it's working too well and there are too many salmon returning. Let's shut'r down...

What exactly are they gonna have to battle out.  Some will get eaten, most won't.

I don't own a boat in the harbor but I respect those that do.  If people showed up making a ruckus and leaving trash all over the place I wouldn't be too happy about it either.

Exactly, creating a new population of salmon and at the same time creating a fishing opportunity for those without boats seems like a win win.
Lame.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Moss is also a possibility....Let me get the go-ahead and I  can be more informative.  Right now things are in flux, completely.  there may be a big silver lining around this cloud.  We might be drinking lemonade.

Hold tight for real news.
