I just bought my 2015 fishing license online.  The price this year is $47.01.  I wonder who thought that price up?  I would pay an even $50 and think nothing of the of the $2.99 more.  Maybe it's my old retail mind but a price ending in a .01 makes no sense at all. ????

It's all the %'s added in for this & that ... ends up in a weird cost usually.  Much like gas $2.89 9/10 per gallon.  Ever notice that little "kicker" 9/10 in the price?

Do we expect "sense" from a bureaucracy? :smt009

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

I'm still waiting for my son to take interest in fishing. When he does, I'll give him the best gift a father can give --- a lifetime fishing license. I need to take him out more. Effin' video games!

$800 if you're something like 20-60 years old (not the exact price. It depends on your age).

Then it's $350 for second rod stamp, ocean stamp, steelehad, salmon report cards. Can't buy it separately.
Thresher in avatar and Soupfin Shark in signature both caught and pic taken by me.
3rd place Kayak Connection Derby, 2014
45th place / 423 pts / 3 Species - AOTY 2014 (nowhere to go but up!)
30th place / 1132.25 pts / 7 Species - AOTY 2015 (moving up a little!)

Always looking for new people to fish with!

I don't know how much it is now. In the ballpark of $800-1000 maybe, I have to check. And if I'm not mistaken, yes you can buy 2nd rod stamp lifetime. Imagine you're 17, you love fishing, and you don't have to worry about buying a license, ever.

That would suck if after you bought him a lifetime fishing license then he would chase after girls instead of fish, eh, Herb?  :smt001

My lifetime license cost $490 when I bought it 13yrs ago. Then another $150 for lifetime stamps. That was a lot of money for a poor college student! And it was hard to save enough... BUT it was the best investment I ever made. And it keeps getting better. So far, it's equaled $50 per year. In 8 more years it will equal $32 per year but I've probably already broke even @ $640 over 12yrs. Fishing for free for the rest of my life and I'm 35. I will definitely get my money's worth haha!

$490 + $150 = $640.
If you had invested the $640 in the stock market 13 years ago, averaged 10% growth, you would now have $2336.

In the meantime, you would have spent a total of maybe $350-$400 for individual licenses?  (I'm not sure where to find previous year license fees)

Total; $640 plus $400 = $1040 out of pocket and $2336 in your IRA.  A net gain of almost $1300.
Of course, it might be you couldn't afford to BOTH invest the $650 and come up with the $20 or so back in 2001 for that year's license, but if you could, it shows that compounding interest in an IRA is a great way to get wealthy.

I didn't get mine until it was nearly 700. One of the best purchases I've ever made!

What doesn't make sense is that you bought it 29 days before you needed to.  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005
