Have any of you done kayaking in the rain since we have all this rain now and tomorrow is my day off but didn't want the rain to stop me from my fun times.  But is it safe? Hope no lightning but figure my wader, PFD, jacket and my tarpon 120 and maybe two rods for fishing.

Any safety tips for raining day kayaking or not to do it at all.
I think I know what I’m doing?

Get a dry suit and a Seattle Sombrero and don't worry about it.

in the rain, wear waders and a rain jacket or a drysuit (assuming freshwater) and have fun.  In the salt, your normal safety gear should be good.

and a hat :)

If its lightening-ing, do something else.

Good luck

Lightning would be a problem, and wind might be a problem. Depends on the storm. I have taken my Tarpon 120 out in the rain more than once. Also depending on where you go, a lot of rain can lead to strong flows in the rivers and delta. Strong flows can lead to "issues" and possible debris in the water.

The fish don't mind the rain, you shouldn't either.   :smt001
Waders, splash top, neoprene gloves, and a good waterproof hat.  I've been using this thing and its awesome:

If gettinng wet bothers you, maybe this sport isn't for you :smt044 :smt044j/k, as long as the wind is down and there are no lightning storms, enjoy the solitude of fishing in the rain, Cameron

Waders,  warm clothes, and a water proof jacket. Unless the wind is howling u should be fine

kayak fishing is a WATER sport. Not in thunderstorms though. Graphite is an electrical conductor.

+1 Bad idea to be holding an 8' lightning rod in the middle of a flat lake during a thunderstorm. :smt009

I fished the cosumnes as well as the mokelumne today. It pretty much rained the whole time. I brought my sponge so I didn't swamp my kilroy. Caught a couple bass and tried for striper on the moke. I enjoyed it. Any free time fishing is 👍👍 in my book.
