Every winter, I start looking at Google Maps and dream up epic dives from little trails at the side of the highway, only to have my dreams shattered upon learning that that spot has no public access. Is there a series of maps I can buy or access online that show exactly what land along the coast is public? Maybe Bureau of Land Management?
Thanks in advance.

If I had any skill at all with Google earth this seems like a worthwhile project.

Don't forget about the California coastal records project photographs.

That's where I always start, but those don't always mention access. There are some sweet looking road turnouts and trails to the water up in northern Mendo county, but I can't tell if they're private from aerial photos.

I used to have some docs bookmarked that described (or had maps) of coastal access points. At the time, I was trying to determine if a certain trail was an easement that provided public access to the beach.
