So I'm out practicing my deep free diving outside the kelp in the Noyo Channel yesterday, and today one of my surf friends sends me aerial photographs of a 16 footer at the mouth of Ten Mile river just few miles away.  The photos were taken the day before we dove in the Noyo.  I've got to say the GWS thing is my least favorite thing about freediving.  With fish, I want to be the eater, not the eaten.......It's just the way I roll.

Those things scare the crap out of me.

Sincerely,

Dave

I here you Dave.  My wife told me about that.  Then while I was out diving yesterday I saw a 3-4' sun fish and the white glare startled me.  We saw at least 5 urchin boats out yesterday also.  That's a lot of time in the water.  I hope we all beat the odds.

I heard a report of a spearo seeing "a big grey tail" in the water while he was diving north of SWS yesterday.

I said it must have been a dolphin.  :smt002

Stay safe fellas!

Sincerely,

Jim

With the water that clear, you "shouldn't" have any issues. :smt003

Yeah, I came up next to one of those Sunfish the other day.  It had been killed by a sealion.  I came up with my back to it without seeing it and turned around and the big eyeball was right in my face....I squeaked through my snorkel.

I think more attacks happen in low vis because they think it's something else.  That's what I say in good vis days anyways.

I just think GWS will try to eat you if they see you.  They eat big critters that are swimming around--and we're one of those.  So, IMHO, Eric's right.  If they can't see you they can't eat you.    I think they tend to spit out humans after a taste because they don't like eating plastic and rubber, not because they're such foodies that they only deem to eat marine mammals.

If only the swell and wind would lay down cause there are albacore and other exotics out there.  10 yellowtail were caught out of Shelter Cove a little over a week ago.
