Download the 4.0 update (for the Elite HDI models).  Some of the update files come in a ZIP format.  If so, un-zip it.  Put the (unzipped) file on a MicroSD card (tiny file size so a 2GB card is large enough), insert card in unit, power on unit & follow on-screen instructions.  The "on-screen" instructions will tell you it is uploading a file & to not power the unit off.  When the update is complete (1-2 minutes), it will tell you to remove the card to complete the update.  When you do so, the unit will power itself off.  Wait a few seconds & then power back on.

If you go into the 'Menu' > 'System' > 'Settings' > 'About'  .... it should show you what revision it has loaded in it.  This is also where you find what version is currently loaded on the unit right now (before & after).

Thanks Rider , that's what I thought.

New question, can I look at my current battery voltage ? if so, where ?

Elite 4 or 5 HDI?

Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

Ok ...

From the 'Page' you want the "Voltage" to show on do the following:

Press 'Menu' button 1x   >  "Overlay Data"   >   "Configure"   then press 'Menu' button again   >   "Add"   >   "Sensor Data" (where "Voltage" is hiding)  The "Sensor Data" is where all the different possibilities are located.  Most of these categories has a drop down with many choices.  When you press the 'Menu' button about half way thru that sequence, you will also see choices to size them & such.

   Hope this helps!

Thanks Bill, I knew it was hiding somewhere. I've looked at all the videos on the Lowrance site and still can't find some stuff, wish there was more info. available to learn how to use it properly.

P.S. - The file shows as ( compressed ) 16.8 MB, right clicking does not give me an option to unzip ? Help please  :smt102

<standby ... trying it again>

I just downloaded it & the file type was a UPD.  This is the file you want to load on the card.  Some of the various downloads, might have been for the HDS units, comes as a ZIP file.  Looks like mine came in as the UPD file @ 17,290kb.

Ooops, it came as a ZIP folder but the file in the folder was a UPD.  The UPD file is the one you want to put on the chip & it is 17,290 kb in size.

Found this link online to the 'Software Update Instructions PDF.  They are for the Elite 7 but seem to be the same for other models.

I did an extract and it came out the same size , I'll try this and see what happens.

Thanks Bill, I figured out where to unzip

As long as the file that you copy to the MicroSD card is a UPD file, then it is done right.

Right about there....  or if the unit can't draw enough amperage from the battery to sustain its needs (ie. when older batteries start to die, some can still put out usable voltage, just no amperage).

Best way to "save power" while fishing a spot stationary is to:

Press the 'Power' button 1x & select Standby Mode.  The unit is "sleeping" but still "active" at the same time.  Drops consumption down to about 150mA ( about 1/5 of an amp) or about 1/5 of it's running amperage.  If you need the unit at any time, just press 'Enter' button and it wakes right up without the long wait for the unit to Restart (if you were to power it down completely).

Thanks Bill, that's good advice. Now off the boards and into the garage to get ready for this awesome tourney.  :smt003
