We have a couple opportunities for guys/girls attending the Lowrance Rockfish Classic at Anchor Bay on Nov 15th.

Couple program requirements:

1. You will need to sign these units out and return them to site #24 prior to awards.
2. You must take part in the Insight Genesis contest - see below.
3. You must have fun and catch a lot of fish and smile all day.

The Navico Insight genesis mapping contest:

Insight Genesis allows you to create customized maps from your own on the water experiences and this program is built right into your fish finder, right now. It's super simple, just put the blank card in, press MENU (from the fishfinder screen) and scroll down to record sonar. A red recording light should appear in the upper right hand corner of the screen when recording is in process.  Hit ENTER and that's it, you're recording, now go fish. The top 3 people who record the most acreage during the Lowrance Rockfish Classic will win:

1st Brand New Elite 4HDI - $300 value

2nd Navico Lake Insight HD chip - $150 value

3rd Navico Lake Insight Pro chip - $$99 value

Couple requirements:

This contest is absolutely FREE. All you need is an Elite model (Reg Elite, HDI or HDS) Lowrance fish finder already installed on your kayak.
We will have a quick 'how to" seminar the morning of the event at 6AM at the check-in station near the sea wall or find Bill the day before & get a 1-on-1 'how to' session.
We can update your unit at the event, but we suggest you update now.  This takes only a few minutes and may be required to get the right data, depending on the version of OS your current Elite unit is running. http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Software-Updates/Elite-40/
We'll supply a blank sd card for every contestant, which you must sign out.
You must return all sd cards by 1:30 PM so we can look through the data to determine the winners. You will DQ from this contest if you are late.

What else will you get for participating:

You will receive a FREE 1 year subscription to Insight Genesis Online Mapping to view, download and print.
You will get the map you recorded and a combined map of everyone's recordings that day in your Genesis account. This map will have 1foot contours, YES!
You will become a better angler because of this!

If you are interested in either program please contact Bill Perryman (fishingforthecure) - Lowrance Pro-staff/ Tech guru.

Lowrance appreciates the support that they have received from the members of NCKA over the years. We hope you have a good time at LRC and stay safe on the water.

I can cover some ground and I  have an HDS5.  If I make it out there this looks fun.

Since I will be keeper & loaner of the units that day, please feel free to PM me if you would like to request demo of a unit for the tourney!  I'll update the list as units become "reserved".  This is a great chance to give a larger model a try in "battle field" use!

Lowrance will have several demo units available for use for the day of the tourney.

Elite 5's (5) - Require you have a Elite 4 already.
1. Gary Charles/BullShark
2. Mike/SolSrf1
3. Craig/TriangleLaguna
4. PescaDONo
5.

 Elite 5 HDI's (3) - Requires you have a Elite 4 HDI already.
1. John / JohnRice
2.
3.

Elite 7 HDI (1)- This will require you to have an Elite HDI 4 or 5 already and a RAM setup with a 1" RAM arm already installed.

How much battery gets used by a HDI 5 when recording the map ?

The maximum current drawn by a 4 or 5 HDI unit is about 1.1 amps.

Does that mean I will be drawing max. amps. while recording ? Just trying to figure out if my 9ah. battery will survive a full day while recording. I would hate to run dry and lose sonar and GPS.

Thanks,

Tim

I don't believe recording draws any less/more power.  I'll see if I can measure the current tonight/tomorrow of an Elite unit while recording to see what it draws.  I'll be testing this on an Elite 7 since that is all I have, currently, at home to test on.  It should be the same or VERY close to the same for the Elite 4/5 units.

Thanks Bill, I'll be waiting for the results. If I get a chance to get out somewhere before LRC I'll give it a try. What size blank card do I need to try this out ?

You can use a 2-4GB card & record a LOT of info.  The file sizes are fairly small.  I ran a test of the Genesis recording on Lake Don Pedro back in May.  I recorded 6 different logs (most of a days worth) and the file size, total, was less than 1GB.  My recording process included WAY more recording info that the Elite will do.  I recorded Broadband, DownScan AND Side Imaging all at once.

Here's a before/after shot from one of the coves that I recorded back in May.  I covered the entire cove (a few of them actually) in GREAT detail. One image you can see what the GPS map shows for the area BEFORE & the second image shows the detail of the map AFTER Insight Genesis.  I chose to display it in 1' contours.  You can change this on the Genesis if you want less contour detail.

We still have a few loaner units left for the event.  Remember, this is just the head unit only & does not come with the transducer/power cable/mount.  The idea is for people who already have a (smaller) unit installed to be able to "test drive" the larger model.

I will also have the latest software updates available on a chip at the event for those who wish to upgrade the software the day before.  I won't have time Tourney morning to do upgrades.  I will also have, in case of emergency, a limited supply of Elite 4x (fishfinder only), Elite 4 DSI & Mark 4 units in the event you have a problem.  Mike & I will be available for Lowrance support but bear in mind that we are also hosting all various aspects of the Tourney so we will do our best to support upgrates, technical issues, etc.  The best time for this will be Friday!

<bump>

I'll be arriving Friday afternoon.  The morning will be busy so TRY & pick-up your DEMO unit the night before if possible.  Have a few left!

Just to be clear, we can't compete in this if we have a Mark 4? :smt010
