I searched and could not find any info on this but I like to run a lead jighead (with scampi or hammer) with a shrimp fly above it for salt.

I'm guessing the dropper loop knot is the most common for attaching the shrimp fly but I have a hard time with that knot (dunno why...?).

I've been using the figure eight on a bight knot.

Is this right or wrong?  Any stories of the figure eight failing??

I went with the 3 way swivel to avoid any knots in the line.  Knots tend to be a weak point.  Hasn't happened to me often but I have hooked fish (and the bottom) with the line breaking at the dropper knot.

doesn't using a 3way swivel require an extra knot? seems it would need 3 knots, and using a dropper requires only two....
maybe I'm just not mentally seeing your setup.

I've used both the dropper and the figure 8 for the teaser purpose. I like the dropper but I also have a tough time tying it, sometimes. Sometimes it comes out perfect the 1st time.

I've had every type of knot fail, so I figure it is just me.

i use the dropper... BUT, if i screw it up, i don't try to fix/re-tie it.  i cut the line and start over.  i failed to do this at albion otw (due to time constraints), and hooked up a big ling, then my line broke at the dropper losing fish/BH swimbait/4oz jig :(

Yeah, I can tell right away if it is a "good" tie or a "bad" tie. Gotta trim it back and start over.

+1.  I use dropper loop as well.  Last time I lost a big fish on crappy dropper loop job, never again.  Don't be lazy...always cut and start over!

Always had a tough time typing a dropper loop, especially on the long range trips. A deckhand showed me a simpler, faster, easier way to tie one. Make the loop whatever length you want and then start to tie an overhand knot but instead pass the loop through and around two to four times (whatever your preference) and then pull to cinch the knot tight.

I use 'twisted' dropper loop on the top, slide a hoochie on before I loop the hook on. The twisted dropper loop adds some rigidity to the dropper loop keeping it proud from mainline.  I always tie up a bunch of leaders with dropper loop at home so I know they're right and not wasting time otw. If ur breaking off try heavier line.

Don't forget to moisten the knot a bit while cinching it down.  Helps to get it tighter & prevent breaking caused by friction/stress.

I tie the swivel with a Fast-Tie tool.  It creates a snell type knot.  Less stretching of the line.

I use dropper loop for my teaser, but I noticed depending on what type o mono you use can break easily. Regular mono and it'd break with some pressure/tension. I like using hard nylon mono for my rf leader whenever a dropper loop is involved. Whatever you use, make sure you test it first by pulling on it. It'd suck finding out otw while a trophy fish is at the end of your line.

I can't tie a dropper loop to save my life.

So...... I tie the teaser with a palomar knot by pinching the line and running through the eye doubled.  Then pull enough through to do a double overhand, pull the loop over the hook and sinch down wet and gently.  The tag end you normally get with the palomar is where my jig head is.  DON'T CUT THE TAG END OFF!!! :smt044

I call it the palomar loop.

I like using dropper loops, if I'm using mono heavier than 20lbs. But I cheat and use a stick to help me tie it.
Checkout the animated video here: http://www.animatedknots.com/dropperloop/index.php?Categ=fishing&LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com
Then look at the attached image of step 3. Imagine the red line is a stick (or a pen or a lighter or whatever). You just slide it into the center hole and then twist it about 9 times, then pull the tag-end/loop through with the stick.
