I arrived at 7am and soon followed by Craig, Craig and 5 or six other guys.  launch was smooth, not much swell and paddled out to the fishing grounds.  I was hoping to go for the 'big ones' so I loaded up on small rock fish and a smelt
and got down to business.  i lost 3 nice fish (2 shakers and 1 hitch-hiker) before pulling in a ling of 34" on a black rockfish.  then i tied on a diamond bar and got another nice fish on there.  fish made a couple runs and saw color on a halibut :smt007!  then i began screaming like Mooch for someone with a net to come over and help out.  a few minutes later craig paddles over and nets that guy, thanks again craig!.  later had another ling bust my braid (must have been frayed) on a rock-fish bait.  threw in the towel at around noon, most of the guys still out there.  almost ate it on the way in, surfed a wave that turned me sideways and shot me off into a side cove near the launch (lucky i didn't ram into a rock).  so i had to make a blind launch from the cove and land it back on the beach.

my stringer went:
Lingcod 34" 15 lbs
Halibut 33" 17 lbs
Cabie 5.5 lbs
Copper at couple pounds

Greg no doubt cleaned Bean's clock, like most NCKAers did today!  WTG Greg, and I will post another photo of your awesome halibut!

Launch was better than conditions outside the cove at first, bumpy out there!  But it calmed by mid-morning.  Greg charged out on his mission, followed by me, Tim, and Gary.  Ben, Ed, and Mary showed up later - glad y'all made it!

I thought I had it all together this weekend, including camera underwater case, but...  I managed to leave my game clips at home  :smt011  Needed them today more than ever before, too...

We got slammed - everything but the kitchen sink.  Quadra-fecta by Greg ('but, lings, cabbie, RF), lings and rockfish-to-go for just about everyone.  Epic day, for sure.

Theme for me today was cliche...  Cabela's Whuppin stick rod: $30 (bye bye), Daiwa Saltist30 reel: $140 (I'll miss you), terminal tackle and hoochied diamond bar: $10 (OPS, get some 6"ers in stock!), 10" greenling on back hook: free (R.I.P.)....
Barely netting a thrown-hooked 41" ling with 2 hands, and wrestling it into submission on deck: priceless.
Ben for assisting with stringer: thank you!!!!

Also got a 24" ling, chunky vermillion, and assorted other RF, blacks, red, numbering 7 more.

My new ultralight kiln-dried birch paddle (eBay: $90) paddled awesome, until it broke in half at the mouth of the cove before landing.  Managed to elude breakers while paddling frantically backwards and forwards, canoe-style.  Mary, that must have been funny to watch from shore  :smt119  And Gary, thanks for rescuing the other half of my broken paddle!  Yea, to the rescue again, huh!  Am I high maintenance or what?

And... coming tomorrow, video of the Bean's bottom... (along with a brief cameo by the ling that completely robbed my entire leader on the first video drop)

Now for more pics.  Launch, Tim, Gary, Greg, and me and my cooler (100 qt cooler - dang, good thing I got a big one) with fish...  You can see the tail of my ling above my right foot....  Tim, love to see that photo you took of fish over my back....

Great seeing everyone out there for another super nice day at Bean!

Just an observation: tides seem to make a big difference at the Hollow. It's much more hairy at ebb tide than at peak. So I am thinking it is better to launch at ebb tide (going out is always easier than comign in) and time the landing for a hour or two after peak tide. Then you get to fish the incoming tide *and* have a nice landing. Looks like you guys were landing near ebb based on the flat beach--the beach at peak is at a 60-degree angle or so. So that's why it was tough for a few of you. Great fishin' folks. Yeah!

I'm not sure what you were referring to regarding video, but it sounds interesting.  Gonna want a weight on the big girl you know!  Looking forward to it.  WTG.   :smt001
