With the new release of some new, longer boats, which boat offers the most glide/speed for the money?  Tracks well, and can be put on top of the rack without two people, and lastly not break the bank?

New fast boats out there: Thresher, Kraken, 575,
Old Favorites: WS 160

What you got, whats your opinion?

I am looking to replace "Das Boot," with somehting newer.

Kind of what it feels like when it gets choppy out there:

my only experience has been with the WS tarpon 160 & 140 & the OK Scupper Pro.

for me @ 200# the Scupper pro seemed an overly wet ride, and I had to stuff my posterior down into the seat. It felt the fastest of the 3 to me, but it really was a toss up between the T160 and the SP in the end.

the T160 was my almost choice, but in the end I went conservative figuring I would appreciate a bit more width in a slightly shorter hull so I got the 140. I've been really happy with it in the last 10 years. I paid $800 new so I got a steal on it.

still kinda want a 160 tho.

For speed and glide, Tarpon 160, or Hobie adventure. Did I say that? Hobie can break the bank though. 575 is stupid fast, not cheap. Nice paddler though.  Kraken, no experience yet, but looks pretty speedy. I smoked all the Hobie's  and everything else Sunday at the KC derby on my Tarpon 160.  Just started paddling to the grounds, looked back, and everyone was gone. Talked to them later and they told me the same.

Sean,
160 and 140 are the same width. Have same weight capacity too. Tarpon weighs 8lbs more. Seems narrower due to the length.

What are your limits as far as weight goes? Check the stealth evolution if you want a fast sleek hulled boat. 16 ft. Any if the plastic boats around 15-16 ft. are going to come in from 72to 88lbs.

I think Eddyline has a pretty cool lighter boat also.

The only two that I've paddled that had any glide are the Scupper Pro and the Stealth. Nothing is gonna beat the Stealth when it comes to glide. That m effin 475 just keeps goin. One day when my back heals up I'll try a Tarpon just to educate myself.

Hobie Adventure
criteria was paddle not peddle. I have thought long and hard about this. but after playing with the Necky and getting my slave driver coach/GF to get my strokes down solid, I can get going pretty well.

Some things I have noticed about some of the new boats:
Kraken:  I like the screw down system in the back, looks to add extra security to everything, could live without the bait system, price point is kind of steep at

Thresher:  Looks like they took the bow off of the WWII battleship off of it, that thing is bulbous

t160: Like the price point

Edyline 14: Like the boat, got to paddle one on the East Coast, now if tI can get them to make a 16 it would be a done deal, and I would not be typing.

The Stealth 575 is fast, but I'm not sure it qualifies on the "for the money" part.  It's like 3 grand.  For the money, especially if you buy used, the t-160 is a good choice for a fast boat.  You could by the Hobie and then paddle it.  Does anyone do that?

Also, I agree about the edyline:  To bad they don't make a 16 footer.

 Here is another option
http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=52306.0

This boat is not for everyone, but it is the fastest of my fishing boats, including the T160.

Last year I had the opportunity to paddle the Kraken prototype and while I enjoyed the glide and the very smart layout, it was not as fast as the T160. The production models may be lighter and faster though.

Here are my fishing boats and you can compare the Disco vs the T140 and T160.
I hope this helps and good luck in your quest for speed.

Personally, I'd vote for the T160 as "best paddling yak for the money."
Unless you have like $2 or 3k set aside for a paddle yak...in which case, you have many more options and I'm jealous.
I thought I heard somewhere that the Thresher doesn't paddle as well as the T160, but I haven't paddled a Thresher so I don't know.

The RTM disco looks very interesting but there is a catch... on RTM's website the nearest dealer and it lists only 4 in the US is LaJolla, a little bit of a haul for a boat.  Austin C&K is listing a  left over 2014  Tarpoon 160 for $899 no word on what the rudder would go for.
