Can't tell from the pics, but please be able to distinguish a silver from a king as the fine for kept silvers is significant.

Huh?  I wonder what the reason is for them being down there, taking that loop?

Is there a lot of bait there right now?

Way to go.  Great surprise catch too!  I remember back in 1982, I think it was an El Nino year my dad came home with large salmon fishing off the wall at the marina green in the SF marina district.  What did he use?  Cut anchovie on a surf rig.  Those were the days!

Allen & ppickerell, This guy was in about 12' of water and no there wasn't allot of bait activity however the tide was just changing as we entered this area. Going from slack to high and if you have ever been here during this change the water really moves around this point in the breaker. I clocked us at 1 mph on the gps when the hit occurred but it was fluctuating between .7 to 1 mph. On this particular wall there is a small break about 1/2 mile south of this point (northern most) where at high tide the water the water takes a circular track around this jetty. Maybe Insaneduane could chime in and give his insights to this or a better explanation how the water flows.
What we experienced there at that particular time was like two head waters meeting and a eddy of sorts is created. Again we were there at approx. 1130 hrs. when we took aboard this legal salmon.
When we drifted back to the Marina we were moving at about 1.4 mph and at times faster. But you have to consider the fluctuation on the gps.The current really moves and we both rigged more for troll than drift. Gotta love taking on a nice size fish on a Kayak. Water temp was about 58 degrees. There were birds diving off and on about a quarter mile north west of us.

Thanks for the endorsements people you had me questioning myself but in hind site we did everything right.  :smt003Just for everyones information the first photo is of that point where we caught the salmon. If you notice that there is a ship in the background at it's right end you can make out marker buoy #6. We were between the point and the marker heading towards the camera when we hooked up. Oh and buy the way my net is 18" in dia. the darn thing just wouldn't fit in :smt001

Isn't there regulations on size of net used to net a salmon?   :smt005

Good job again.

Funny-- has spots (you can see them in the pic)-- but gums look pale...I'll bet its a female king...

Wow, just goes to show, you won't catch fish unless you're out there fishing!

Spectacular guys!!!!!!!  Makes me all itchy as I sit in my office, rather be out there seeing what's going to bite next!

WTG!!

Definitely not a silver.  You wouldn't see that many spots in the dorsal fin.  Also something I learned being an observer up in Puget Sound and hard to explain is the "sheen" that a coho has with the different size scales and different colors, and that fish doesn't have that "sheen."  Also might be a female but you wouldn't be able to tell from pale gums and that picture isn't good enough anyways to see the gums.
Nice Catch!!!!!!!!!!!

Not busting chops, I have fished the rockwall for years and never seen a salmon taken. Nice catch. Maybe this will become the new "California City".

I think the person that was asking the silver question got confused when someone said it looked very silver. I think they mean it is very bright for a fish making its way up river.

Amazing catch!!!!

nice size stripper that loved to run.
I hate it when the strippers run, I can't get my dollar in their G string

But he said "nice sized", so she probably can't run very fast or far.  Or you can just try to lure her back with some of your hot wings you're probably snacking on.
