Did you guys hire a guide?  When are you guys planning to go again?

There are no kayak fishing guides on Kodiak.  The hardest part of this trip is finding kayaks to take over there.  Luckily we knew a few guys.  Rudy brought 2, and we had Chris Mautino of Liquid Adventures along that brought 3.  Between them, that covered the 3 of us that flew in.  There are no places to rent fishing kayaks on Kodiak.  There are very few in Alaska, and even fewer that are convenient.

Getting to Kodiak with all the gear is a trip in itself.  Fly to Anchorage, 4-5 hour drive to Homer (longer because we stopped and fished!), and a 9-10 hour ferry ride.

We rented a house for the week, and it was nice to be able to go back to the house at the end of each day.  Although the days were long.  Typically we'd get up sometime between 7-8 (slept in because we were out late the previous night), get going, drive an hour to the launch (end of the road), fish from the kayak all day until early evening, then hit a river to fish it until sunset (10PM).  We were often eating dinner at midnight, only to get up the next morning and do it all again.

But heck, I'd like to do it again next year.  We left many places unexplored ...

Thanks for the info Allen!  Heck of an adventure.  You guys really maxed out your water time.  Did you run into any bears?

That's an A1 buoy with 29 pounds of lift.  How long did it stay down?

Is that a Baidarka kayak rod or am I seeing things?

You're seeing things.  I believe that is a Trevala MH or H.  Rudy will correct me if I'm wrong on the size.  One thing is for sure, that IS a PINK Avet you are seeing.

Gotcha. Ton of EVA foam on the foregrip and handle. I blame the blurry video. And the blinding pink. :smt001

Cool footage.
