Whered ya get the hobies? Rentals?

I was actually in an Ocean Kayak.  This pic was just taken by the closest kayak still not packed up.

We went with some AK locals and just borrowed kayaks from them.

Very nice, it's on my bucket list ...
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

Was this a DIY trip or did you use one of the lodges?

Way to go guys on the big 'buts! that bouy was to small for a 100+ pounder! We used one bigger that a basketball for ours in Seward. At least you got some nice ones. Last year all we got were dinks. Was the meat firm? I sure hope it was.

That buoy (A1 sized) is bigger than a basketball!  And at the end of the day, it did float the hundred pounder.

My haul. 45 packs averaging 1.5 pounds  totaled 67.5 pounds. I had 15 pounds already in the freezer and distributed to friends.

That's 82.5 pounds. My local store sells halibut for $21 per pound retail.   Math says...
$1.732.50 value...

Crazy.....

Fortunately we eat fish three times per week...and host a few dinners for friends...

Ahhh... I forgot about that.  I kept four fish. Released a couple more.  One- Day 1 at Pasagshak. two @ Chiniak, zero whiff on circles, one big one at Pasagshak again.

112.5 lbs of skin on fillets I think roughly translates to 200 pound whole weight (55% recovery from whole weight).  Roughly 50 pound live weight average on the fish kept...not bad.  So revised total is $2,362.50...even more insane.  People buy this?

Thanks again Allen!!

Memories. . .I lived in Kodiak for 4.5 years (just outside the Coast Guard station gates). That's where I learned to fish from shore and also bore my 2 daughters. We used to catch flounder/halibut off the docks by the fisheries and salmon in the rivers near Chiniak. In the "olden days", it cost $1.50 to have a whole salmon smoked! Yum!

Full report hopefully coming from Kayak Fishing Magazine soon.

But to whet the appetite....5 of the fish we caught including the 105 pounder.  Hoping to get other people's videos for the full report.
