We Just got confirmation that the VA will have between 15 to 17 Vets on the water.   We will have additional vets shore fishing.   We like to have one on one guides for tips on catching trout and for safety.    If you can help, please post here or pm me.  We will have enough kayaks but need guides.

It looks good for a HOW event  on August 29 at San Pablo Res.  Right now we have 20 plus vets interested along with additional parents,  spouses and others.  If you want to give back to our brave soldiers this your chance.  Just let me know on this thread of your availability and I will be making the assignments.  The event normally gets rolling at 700am  and continues with clean up at 3pm.

Assignments:

Eelkram-Help Don set up, guide clean up.
ohhhgee-kitchen, guide, clean up. coordinating and making tacos for lunch.
Guitarzan-Kitchen, guide, clean up.
DG-kitchen, Clean up set up fishing poles
bmb.20- shore duty-waiver, photo release, wrist bands, help Kathy of Delta Kayak unload, PFD assisgment, clean up
VK- set up fishing pole. Assist Racin Rob with kayaks, guide, clean up
RacinRob-kayaks help Kathy of Delta unload, take care of assigning vet to kayak, double check pfd, clean up
AFCM retired- guide, or help wherever needed. clean up-and H2O and soft drinks.
Sarge and friend, guide set up poles, help vets returning from fishing, watch shore fisherman and assist them.  clean up
Raydon, Kitchen, cook, lunch, clean up.
Don-set up, guide and clean up.
Midwest-set up kayaks with Racn Rob and Kathy- Guide,  Pole set up and clean up.

We have breakfast covered- Jack and assistants.  We have lunch covered, Ohhgee and assistants.  Great job guys.

We need H2O and soft drinks. (now covered by John AFCM)

Some thoughts:  Some vets have been with us before and  know the routine.  Others will be hesitant.  We want to welcome them, but don't be over exuberant.  Some will be with their therapists and won't go unless the therapists also goes.  Be friendly, be calm at all times, and let them make the decision as to go or not.  Some will just go kayaking, not kayak fishing.  Let them do whatever they want, except drown. :smt009  Don't ask them about their military experience.  If they want to tell you, just listen and make no judgments.

I want to thank you for giving of your time in helping with HOW.  If you get goose bumps and a really good feeling when you leave the event, relish it.   Many will thank you after the event, and you should pat yourself on the back.  You have given back.

If you have any extra waterproof  pants, shoes, windbreaker, gloves bring them,  Most vets come in civilian clothes not suited to get wet.  Just make sure you mark all you gear.

If I have overlooked something, please pm me.

Lets do this.

Raydon

I'll be there to help out as guide or any other place as needed.

However, I need to double check with the wife before I make any full promises

I was on a bike ride upon tilden and the reservoir looks full…  still waiting on the VA to confirm, but it looks good,  SPD has already given us the keys to the lake,

Kayakjack at the food helm and a full reservoir,  should be quite epic, as usual….

Sorry Weimarian & Family,  this one has to be a weekday,  but Kelsey is coming!!!

THe VA has confirmed…  participants from The VA, Therapist and some scattered contacts we have made that will come privately ,,,

I believe were looking at around 30ish in participants  plus volunteers, so probably close to 50 people all together …

I believe entry fee and quagga muscle inspection fee will be waived and inspections will be done on the lawn area by the gazebos which are also ours…. will let y'all know when I'm confirmed on fees being waived…    quagga muscle inspection means no  moisture in kayak or kayak gear,,, if a kayak does not pass, no worries, let it go...

we still need to pay for daily fishing permit,,, $5

I'll also be working on using the SPD kayaks already there and maybe a Patio boat…

waivers can be signed in advance, they are at the top of the HOW topic in a STICKY.. we will also have waivers at the show...

That's all for now…  Thanks Raydon,  let me know what ya need    :smt006

Other Good News is RacinRacidRob is spending some of that money we all raised on new equipment…

can't wait to see that, probably won't have that for this event, but coming soon!!!

  Thanks Everyone!!!   :smt006

I don't think we ever regret "giving back" at these events..... It's always a GAIN how good I feel when I drive home  from HOW events.     Don and everyone is da'men(woman)!  :smt008.

In others words... My boss (wife) cleared me to come , if you kind folks would have me! :smt004  I'll do any thing really to help.
