I'm looking for a reasonably priced reel. I will be using this for river salmon, steelhead, bass and lake trout. It will probably be put on a Shimano Clarus 8' rod. Any suggestions on a reel that will do the work for a good price with good value will be appreciated.

That is a really broad range of species. You can use a spinning reel to throw lightweight spinners for salmon, steelhead, and trout. Try the Shimano Symetre FL 3000 or 4000.

A Shimano Sedona 4000 for the river salmon and steelhead.  I'd go with a smaller reel for the bass and trout though.  Maybe the Sedona 3000.  They run for about 50 bucks.  I use the Sedona 4000 for all my river salmon/steelhead fishing and am very satisfied with them (I have two of them).

Thanks for the reply. I was actually looking at those today at Sportsman Warehouse. Anybody else?

Daiwa laguna, I was very happy for a spinning reel that cost under $30.

Make sure you get one with at least 8 ball bearings. And an extra spool is a good extra.
PFLUEGER PURIST is what you were throwing today.
Slap that on a 9-6 rod, some 20lb braid, and watch the spoons fly into the next zip code.
Oh, and the drag is great on those reels for the price.

Pflueger president will hold up to those all at around 40 bucks or so for the 4 series. It will be oversized for trout, but still get that job done. Solid, smooth, and strong.
