scwafish is a dumb joke that started a while back and stuck.  I work for the Sonoma County Water Agency which is abbreviated SCWA and I run the fish department, people stuck the two together to sound like squawfish, or whats now called pikeminnow.

My NCKA name comes from my last couple of tuna trips out of San Diego.  For whatever reason I've caught bluefin tuna on the last 3 tuna trips I've gone on and the last trip was horrible but I managed 3 bluefins and 13 people on the the boat got skunked.  17 is just my lucky number, birthday.  When I lived in Arcata, I lived on 17th and J st (name is Joe), coincidence??????? It is a little superstitious for me I guess.

insaneduane comes from when I was 13 I have allways rode dritbikes allmost my whole life
we were riding up in San Pablo ca and there was this creek that was about 60 to 70 feet across.
I was riding a 1980 kx 80 way to small to make the jump across the creek just not fast enough
to make it but it was in the hills and there was a big hill that you could get allot of speed so i started
at the top of the hill put in 5 gear and went for it only because their was some girls watching me
+ the big guys were to chicken to try it so I thought no balls no glory cleared the creek by 20 feet or so
and destroyed my little bike but came out unhurt and then my buddy Tim says that was insane duane
I will never forget that day  :smt010

I was trying to find something unique and memorable for my Yahoo account a few years ago  as I was struggling with all the obvious ones based on my name being taken. I could have just appended my zip code, a year of some importance (someone already took my birth year for an abbreviation of my first initial-last name amazingly), or something that would have no signficance to anyone else and therefore not be taken but would also not be memorable. I didn't want my 'handle' to be similar to a strangers lest they get an email by mistake from someone who didn't quite remember my email address correctly. So I knew I needed to be creative.

One of the workers at the Carson River Resort where I had recently been fly fishing at the time listed his email addess as containing Mallard as he was a Duck hunter. At the time I had finished winding up my mountaineering adventure phase of life and Marmots were fresh in my mind their having chewed the edges of my mountaineering boots I left in camp while wearing my rock shoes on a climb of Clyde Minaret not long before. Marmots are alpine groundhogs--large Rodents. I added Surfing to make it comical and memorable and because I was getting into sea kayaking and watned to learn to surf launch but was apprehensive about it. So when I joined this forum, I used the same name as my Yahoo and Google mail accounts to give me less to remember.

And so we have Surfing Marmot--an oxymoron is there ever was one.

I was really curious how you came up with that name.
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.

I'm not sure why, but my grandmother called me MR MAGOO. My e-mail address is othymagoo.
"Othy" is another nickname, it comes from Timothy.

You suggested but I instantly VETO'D. I think mono man would lead people to assume that I HAVE mono, not that I PREFER monofilament.......not exactly the image I'm goin for Joel.

BTW, I ran "easy way out," by the family and they shut me down, back to the drawing board.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

I first started with the name I used just about everywhere else, "onesam48". "One" for the area I an assigned to at work. "Sam" for the phonetic alphabet for "S" which signifies that I am a sergeant. "48" because that is my assigned number, so onesam48. Pretty stupid right?..YEP! So i figured I'd change it to something tropical because i had just returned for my first trip from Hawaii and purchased a new lime green kayak from Seanfish, I mean Scwawhite, no I mean SCWAFISH. I figured that Mahi Mahi was a cool green and tropica fishl, plus I figured Humuhumunukunuku apua'a was too long.

CHEERS!

Orion… For two very good reasons (to me that is). 1) I named my son Orion primarily for the second reason. 2) I love hunting of all types – Mammal, Fish, Mushroom and fowl and it’s all outside! Hooray! Orion is the Greek god of hunting.
My real name is Jim
