Sackyak is derrived from two of activeites I am passionate about, footbag or Hackysac and Kayaking.  While it clearly can be pronounced in two syllables and that is how I first thought of it, I kind of like to think of it as three "sac-ky-ack" becasue it sounds like Hackysac.

I'm first generation American, both my parents are from Holland. I've been going back and forth since I was a kid and always wanted to go to the southern end, Zeeland, where there's good weather (compared to the north) and great fishing. In Holland, like Germany, if you come from a place you just add the er behind the name. ie. Berliner, Amsterdamer, Zeelander. Also Zeeland means Sea Land, thought it sounds cool.

BTW, New Zealand was named after Holland's Zeeland.

"mooch"

My original handle was "Trout Slayer" - in my early stages of kayak fishing, I paddled a Cobra Explorer and hunted down trout all over the foothill lakes. I then changed my handle to "Hana Pa'a" - a Hawaiian word that means "to fasten or to make secure" when I began to kayak fish the ocean. (I was also a defensive specialist on my Ono Hawaiian Grill sposored - Men's AA Volleyball Team that competed on the United States Volleyball Association Tour = our team name was "Hana Pa'a")

And so, about 2 years ago, I paired up with Stuart to fish for salmon at Moss Landing....I forgot to bring my bait and so Stuart was kind enough to share his and that's when I hooked up with a 27 # Salmon :smt007. The following week, I went out to Moss but with Fred this time around, and once again - I did not bring bait, so I "mooched" off Fred's bait "again" and caught a 24# King. Fred decided to call me "Mooch" (and a lot of other things :smt013 - as it was one of those rare days that I outfished him :smt002)

So it really has two meanings:

1) I mooched bait from my buddies twice and got rewarded for it  :smt003
2) I just simply prefer the "mooch" technique for salmon rather than trolling  :smt002

Piscean
I'm not really into astrology, but I am a pisces. I've always been a water person, just grew up in that type of family so the fish symbol fits. When I was thinking up names for my studio (currently just a shed but ya gotta start somewhere) I chose Piscean Artworks since most of my inspiration comes from the ocean, and the first pieces I carved were all fish.

Great way to learn more about our fellow yak fisherman.  My screen name is quite boring. JSelli.  My first name is Jason and last is Selli.  The importance of my screen name probably has something to do with my lack of creativity.

well guys mine is chefstefano...one because I am a chef by passion, two because stefano is my name in Italian (the English pronunciation ) and that what my Italian friends would call me plus it has always been my e-mail address as well.

now that I am growing into a new man(again) I have been thinking of a new name....although I will aways be chef or chefstefano.  I have come up with a new one....please the drum roll....Jade pirate :pirat: :chef:. so Jade Pirate because of the fact I have always loved the ocean and being on it , the fact that I have only one eye now and I will be wearing an eye patch. the Jade comes in from my other passion of hunting and working with Big Sur jade. I will be working on a jade Eye patch Here real soon :smt003

Ciao for Now....arrrrrrrrrrrr

Tote,
I discuss my trips about a week (or more if multi. days) in advance and this gives the wife and family no surprises when that day(s) comes up. What my wife does is put it on the calender for all to see. It's funny you came up with this post she just asked me why that is my handle on NCKA I told her to look at the calender. For each day I have been out there it is," Frank Fishing", written into that day. Thus the handle Frankfishing

usagi_pj = "usagi" is Japanese for "rabbit".  My last name is Rabbitt (note the extra 't' that helps distinguish me from a certain storybook character), and my first name is Pete.  Yes...Peter Rabbitt.  As I tell my karate students on the first day of class, laugh now, and get it over with.    And, no - while the PJ does represent my initials, my middle name isn't "Jack".  Yes, I've heard it all before.  All of it.  Trust me.  Like the boy named Sue, I had a choice of learning how to fight, or developing a sense of humor.  I went with both!

We have alot incommon. I too had to learn to fight (Jujitsu) do to my last name which is SACRAMENTO. Yep just like the city. Try making a collect call with that name.
When my wife was pregnant for our first child I asked if we could name the child Samuel for a boy or Samantha for a girl. But I wanted the the child to either have Francisco (my real name) or Francisca for their middle name. At first my wife thought it was a great thing to do until the next day when I cam home to a"I don't THINK so" and the downward look of a discussed wife. So I have two girls named Victoria and Caitlin.
Shorten Samantha to Sam and we would have had Sam Francisca Sacramento
Or if we had a boy "Sam Francisco Sacramento"  . The screaming part about this was it took a whole day for Diana (my wife) to figure this out.We still chuckle about this one.

                                                                     Frank (Francisco Sacramento)
