When do these cease being kayaks and become small boats?

Okay, if you can't paddle (and can't peddle), this is a good option.  Craig, you opened my mind.

Until your battery dies and your stuck on the water.  If you can not paddle or pedal, you should not be on the water.  At least never alone.
Solar charger?

The solar pannels that are reccomended for trolling motors are about $1000.  Plus the $1800 motor.  For that price you might as well just get a whaler and join bloody decks  :smt002

I think they have.  But it depends on which definition of kayak we're using:

Google:
1. a canoe of a type used originally by the Inuit, made of a light frame with a watertight covering having a small opening in the top to sit in.

Merriam Webster:
kay·ak
 noun \ˈkī-ˌak\
a long narrow boat that is pointed at both ends and that is moved by a paddle with two blades

Wikipedia via the International Canoe Federation:
A kayak is defined by the International Canoe Federation as a boat where the paddler faces forward, legs in front, using a double-bladed paddle.

Once you start taking the "paddle" out of the kayak, you start to lose the kayak definition.  Once you start to take the "human powered" element out of it, you really start to move into a definition of rotomolded boat.  But who cares really other than DMV?  Anything that gets people onto the water safely to enjoy the outdoors is a good thing.

Isn't it just a Predator with an optional electric motor? Ask the Predator guys how it paddles...I'm sure it works just fine without the motor. So, yeah, it's still a kayak.

Solar panels for a trolling motor are basically useless.  Even at 45watts (per 7 hours of sunlight), that's about 1/2 Amp. per hour.  Great if you are recharing a cell phone or iPod but not a trolling motor while OTW.

when they first took the wind up starters off the front of cars and made them "turn key" or button inside the car start models, folks would not buy them, they had to include the winder or imply either or,folks did not trust cars with no crank on the front bumper...only an idiot would want a car with no crank out front to start it...

While it looks a little different, just think of the folks who are disabled and still want to kayak fish.
This platform might allow them to. Could probably put one of those to use if anyone is involved with the Wounded Warriors or HEROS on the Water.

I was just cracking wise. Im sure these boats will fill a nice niche in the market. Personally I have an inflatable canoe that can run ww and add a motor mount that will take up to 4hp. Very versatile.

I paddled the Predator MX and the 13. For being a big boat. Both paddled surprisingly well. Linelle recently paddled the MX on Clear Lake and she loved it. Said it would paddle circles around one of her previous boats. An Ok scrambler. The dog of the sea.

I don't think its quite the same.  The Predator XL is 36" wide, so its 2" wider than the Predator MX.  Who's paddled one yet?

Its a slow boat Matt. When my wife says that....................... well................. we have left her in the dust so many times she told me to get rid of it. Not mean. Factual actually. If you love it that's great! That's all that matters.

I just really don't have any reference all I've ever used.
I had a prowler once upon a time. And paddled Adams Jackson. That was nice.

I would love one of those for days I just want to be lazy or am sore. After a 40-70 hour week doing HVAC running ductwork in crawlspaces under houses, in 140 degree attics, and so on.... since I don't work in air conditioned spaces doing light to no physical labor like most people. And don't want to deal with the hassle involved with a bigger boat.

I mean ideally I'd like a small, fast kayak, a big stable yak like my current Predator, a yak like this XL, and a boat. That'd be just great and fill all of my needs. Anyone got a extra 50k laying around to donate my way? Ha.

I don't see the problem. For disabled people, it'd be good for them to be able to get out too. Someone mentioned the hazards for them. They could always buddy up. this would let them. My dad would not be able to paddle. Peddle maybe, but he'd actually jump at a chance to come with me if he had a XL like this one. Whatever gets you out on the water (or mountains or anywhere other than home) is a good deal as far as I'm concerned. If you want to be a lazy ass knock yourself out, no judgement here, you're still way cooler than the guy wasting away in front of his TV.
