It's always cool to see an older guy punch but super cool to see buzz do that.  He didn't want to take anymore shit from that guy. Don't know and don't care about the subject.  When anyone is getting harassed like that your gonna get punched.  Good for u Buzz!  I don't like to call anyone a hero, yes the word is over used but in this case You can't de-hero the Buzz, he is a HERO

Too small to simply walk away. Such "heroes" need to get perspective. A hero is someone who goes into a burning building to rescue the people inside. It is not someone who the taxpayers send on a joy ride or the people that set fire to buildings with their tanks firing rockets or their jets dropping napalm. There is no more overused and abused term in the USA than "heroe". Lot of BS.

I had to google & wiki this to know what it was all about.
I remember Aldrin got kind of a tough representation in the Right Stuff, but sometimes that is the way life is. To be the second person to ever set foot on the moon is a pretty big deal for a sci-fi geek like me. Actually, to even be in a space craft that landed is a pretty big deal.

from wiki (so consider that a grain of salt)
Bart Sibrel incident
On September 9, 2002, Aldrin was lured to a Beverly Hills hotel on the pretext of being interviewed for a Japanese children's television show on the subject of space. When he arrived, Apollo Conspiracy proponent Bart Sibrel accosted him with a film crew and demanded he swear on a Bible that the Moon landings were not faked, insisting that Aldrin and others had lied about walking on the Moon. After a brief confrontation, in which Sibrel called him "a coward and a liar",[25] Aldrin punched Sibrel in the jaw. The police determined that Aldrin was provoked and no charges were filed.[26] Aldrin dedicates a chapter to this incident in his autobiography Magnificent Desolation.[27]

from this alone it seems a jaw punch was warranted.

Wiki 'Hero':

A hero (masculine) or heroine (feminine) (Ancient Greek: ἥρως, hḗrōs) refers to characters who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self-sacrifice—that is, heroism—for some greater good of all humanity. This definition originally referred to martial courage or excellence but extended to more general moral excellence.

I'd say he qualifies....

riding an otherwise ICBM to the moon took a lot back then. To think that was some giant conspiracy all these years later makes me laugh.   Hell I am surprised Snowden didn't find evidence to prove it didn't happen, hell he got everything else.

I'd have to disagree on the term hero in this instance as well.  It's not like they couldn't find anyone willing, and Buzz stepped up to the plate and took one for the team   What he did was brave, knowing and understanding the risk involved, but a hero is a term reserved for someone who doesn't stand a chance and still put his life at risk of certain death in order to save another life.  A national hero would have to step up even that definition and save our way of life.   If it were said that our way of life, as Americans, would not be what it is today, if not for Buzz, then he'd be a hero in my book.  Buzz exemplified the meaning of being what being an American is; taking an opportunity made available and succeeding.  Buzz sure did succeed as an American.

Anybody who signs their life away for the betterment of their country is a hero in my book. I think we're just splitting hairs on the literal definition of the word hero. And I'm glad Aldrin punched that douche in the face. But maybe I'm biased because I know a few astronauts...actually had a mtg today with the guy who holds the record for longest time spent in space.
