In the lines of work I have been in all my life involving extreme danger, my moto is and always will be "You don't know, what you don't know" so I am always paying attention, and this shark deterent is no exception.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

.........with pinnipeds protected, makes sense that their predator numbers would increase in kind until the pops stabilize.

The protection and subsequent huge rise in their population is cited as the cause for the great spike in attacks/encounters around Cape Cod. There is a great tagging and tracking study going on there as a result. I believe it was covered by PBS, Nat Geo or Discovery. Worth seeing and definetly keeping in mind around pinnis!

the shark he's tagging --in the early part of video when he talks of tagging 30+ sharks...looks like the size of the one that was right by my kayak off the beach 1/4-1/2  mile or so out by M.B kayak  in like 60 f.o.w ...looked just like it to me...FAT and short and twisting around like that

I don't like how they extrapolated the number of 2400 because that's not true science.
But I don't need scientific research to tell me the obvious....
GWS have been protected for decades.
Seals & sealions have been protected for decades.
So there are more of them.
Duh!
Thanks science!

I am on the waiting list for this.  http://mrkiteandsail.com/ESDS.aspx

The inventor is working with a new manufacturer to get it out to the public.

Effective range 20 feet.  If a GWS is powering straight up from 50 feet deep, would it be able to stop in the last 20 feet?

Is there a prefect deterrent?  Off course not but at least you have one.  We can create What IF scenarios with no end.
First users are Hawaiian surfers and spear fishermen.

Do you believe ESDS is a deterrent?  From their webpage:

"Although the ESDS has undergone testing to confirm that it is an effective tool to deter sharks, it is impossible to guarantee that all sharks will be deterred by ESDS under all circumstances."

Question under what circumstances will it effectively deter sharks, and which sharks, if not all sharks?

I had a ryobi radio playing tunes..battery power 18 volt tool type battery and small radio....I often wonder about that thing emitting through hull come and get it signals...but dig npr or car talk etc otw.....

I do wonder if most kayak strikes are not freight train-type- quick reaction- mistakes that draw a deep water to surface run.......in which case....man.......man.....whats gonna stop that kind of propulsion.....but maybe they can sense non food at the last second to avoid self destruction...kind of in the genes type call off response....

Pretty sure there was an attack on someone wit a shark shield.

And i'm curious why there are so many encounters on you kayak fisherman. Encounters on divers seem pretty rare and we dress up like seals and tow around bloody fish. Is it just because there are more fisherman than divers?

a diver ...diving on a reef right near where I saw my GWS...in 80 f.o.w ...told me.."do you have any idea what you guys look like from down at the bottom?"...there were three of us chatting with them after they came up and got back into their zodiac......a guy and a gal......they were almost laughing when i asked if they worry about sharks....thats when they said this to us....they said they would be more scared to float along on the surface like we  were...said they could see us on the top the whole time they were down and we looked like big seals

I guess that's some good evidence that they are out there and see us more than we think. They just distinguish us as not food....for the most part...
