The inventor is working with a new manufacturer to get it out to the public.

Very interesting article - thanks for posting the link.

Its obviously something to be aware of, but I think the take away message is that the population is growing but nowhere near historic levels.

Stupid that they don't allow you to change batteries.

Lets wait for the new model to come out.  Can't buy the first release anymore.

it seems like they dont really have a definitive number, all speculation and calculations of old data with what would be a reasonable increase along the lines of food source increases and no targeting by man, but its good to see them recovering, an ocean without them would be a sad place

i think we(kayakers) are the perfect measuring device for this type of study.
we will know if there is a rise in check-outs, swim-bys, investigative chomps and flat-out SouthAfricanLaunches.

Let us revisit this in 2024.....then we'll compare it to some old data and come up with our own numbers.

I'm glad MAN has not found a way to make some kinda profit out of them yet, or they'd all be gone and our oceans would be very sickly.

good post...
the best post I have read on NCKA -showed some tagging studies and the exit and return of many/all /tagged ones really- from our california coasts and the first and last dates of arriving tags and when they are all leaving again ,first and last dates also ---that post to me mirrored the information presented in the short film that the aquarium shows about white sharks and their research, the film updates all the time with new research results...same info really of a leaving and returning population
I was surprised to have one come to my kayak in only my first season ocean kayaking ,and now, I half way except to see one every time I'm otw...I thought I would never see one and was just being nervous, then wham/splash here I am mister....now "I wait" to see the next
so I am believer that there are many around the Monterey bay.....for sure in the fall /winter /early spring ---100% on this IMO
They may not all be 20 footers-mine was maybe 11-14 but still they are fatty's and they are here with us....
I figure I'll die in my sleep or from being too fat or from driving a honda civic  on why 68 at night with drunks...something boring.....odds are with those options...there are kayak every day all day with newbs renting and never a bite....tons of kayaks really...everywhere...not one death that I know of around here...not even an injury

Not sure how the ESD is different from the SharkShield, but I am also interested.
It isn't in the budget now, but I'll probably be looking to buy a deterrent device in the next couple of years.

with pinnipeds protected, makes sense that their predator numbers would increase in kind until the pops stabilize.

Any word on electropositive alloy(non battery) shark repellents?

It would be cool if you could put something like a big magnetic credit card strip on your kayak that would repel sharks.

wonder how many folks who use the water actually use a sharkshield type device...wonder if there have been any reports of sharks veering away from one in use around cali...I know I know ...the ones you dont ever see are why a guy would want one...just wondering
