If you aren't cool with the Aoty format then don't play. You aren't going to use a hobie anyways Rob. This years format is great, it gets people out there to fish more. Are you saying you only fish to win a kayak. You did that at  GS8 and sold it. Isn't the fact of winning Aoty enough.

I'm not the best fisherman in the world. The idea of paying more spots should have been before people paid. I do like the pay to eight places. But feel it is wrong to change after the original announcement. The Idea should be amended to next year. This is my first tournament with NCKA I'm coming to have fun no matter what.

Mike, uh number 3 is so 1980s.
Cellular phones did away with the car phone bro .........

It's what most of us use to get on Tapatalk and NCKA. Not a car phone dude.

I didn't have a car phone and I've never had a cell phone. Never did Facebook, Tapatalk, My Space, Your Space, Instagram, Linkedin or whatever the latest social media is.
NCKA is pretty much it for me.
Maybe #3 is so 1940's or 50's where people actually worked for what they wanted.  :smt044
I'd still be at Albion if they paid the top 100 people; or if there were no prizes at all.
But to declare the tournament rules, have people pay, then change the payout is a bit cheezy.
If you're OK with that then always accept when you pay for one thing and get something else. Don't ever complain, just accept it.
Maybe Kayote can change the format of the Big Fish Side Bet to the 8 Biggest Fish Side Bet. Of course he'll let you know after you've already paid.  :smt044

Because you do not know when you start planning how many participants, sponsors, donations etc. for a tournament, suggest something like this is always added to rules just after prizes are listed.

PRIZES: Tournament prizes will consist of equipment and gift cards.
There may be some cash prizes depending on sponsor contributions and
number of entrants.

Final prize list will be determined closer to tournament time.

Has saved a lot of discussion/issues in the tournaments I have been part of. We try to publish a couple weeks before tournament date but still there can be last minute donations and prizes can change.

One other thing I want all to know. I may have to adjust the cash prizes according to attendance. I have a bare minimum of registrations to fill. I also may expand the places from the top three to more if funds allow. It takes money to run this event. Even if we get 100 anglers at 25.00 per person that only leaves 750.00 to run the event. That would be close, real close to not paying for itself.

Like I said I am the FNG but he said from the get-go that he may expand the places from the top 3 if funds allow.
Rob I do agree with you about try harder to win but I think paying 8 spots out off 100+ is not bad.

Craig, it's your show... Do as you will! As for me and the fact I probably would not be in the money anyway even down 8 places... 1st threw 3rd would be my first choice. Those that shoot for it work harder and don't leave it to chance. Paddle farther, fish more, risk more, loose more gear... Pole anyone? open to those participating (paid registrations) Either way, will still be there loving the experience and hoping to get my brother and I on fish! Can't wait to see everyone and play... Thanks Craig, sponsors and everyone involved for going all out for ME and the group to provide this venue. See ya all there :smt007
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Don't really care about the money. It's the part about making more people feel like they accomplished something when all they did was a mediocre job at best to get 8th place. If I end up in eighth I would not feel right about taking what was originally promised to the winner. You originally said if you get more funds you would like to spread out the pay. That is great, but not at the expense of the top 3. At every race I have ever attended it will pay to so many spots. If the car count is higher they will pay down further. In doing that they DO NOT take away money from the winner to pay down. The extra entry fees cover the extra pay out. You asked how we felt about paying down further if you get more entries and I gave my opinion. Winning is an awesome feat, and I will applaud whoever wins. As Tote said I will be there even if 100 people get paid. Changing the rules in the middle of the game is just not right. Paying more spots is great if it does not take away from the original payout and only enhances it. Sorry if I offend anyone in giving my opinion. I've been competing for cash and prizes longer than most anyone here. 30 plus years of racing in one form or another.

Rob you didn't offend me or many others. We are all expressing our opinions. I'm coming no matter if it was a fish and chill event. Some time fishing is luck just like racing. Ask or research Loyd Ruby on the racing side. A contender at INDY but never won. Or Parnelli Jones in the turbine car. I'm not a pro at fishing, I do know more times on the water makes a person better at fishing. But there is always is the luck factor, in any thing we do.

Craig any way you want to run Albion is good with me you have always done a Super Job.
I have always felt like a Winner just being there, didn't see any losers.

" It's the part about making more people feel like they accomplished something"

Hmmm I've always thought it was cool knowing who placed where in the top ten. I never thought it bothered anyone that we acknowledged who placed in the top ten of AOTY. It's also a fishing tourney just sayin...... I'll definitely bring some cheese to go along with your whine this year.  :smt006

I would like to thank those that didn't get too upset with me wanting to change the money distribution. I should have done that from the start. After talking to Alfredo, we looked at the registration form and came to the conclusion that it might indeed be a contract that people have signed and paid towards. There is no way I can break that now and I see that very clearly. What I did find out is some more information about some people on this website. Rob questioned my integrity.  Rob you complained about the start I wanted to do also. I made the start go back to how it has been because of that. I have found out that you cant please everyone all the time. Some you can never please. I thought it would be a giving gesture to change it and pay down to 8th. That doesn't change the honor of winning first at all in my eyes.

So we are back to the top three payouts. That's it. No more money goes into the prize pool at all. Any money left over after expenses and prize money will go to Alex's son.

Thanks for the idea Jim! It was a good one. One that really honored all the effort that everyone put into this event for Joel and Marv over the last five years. I hope a new person wins. Truly I do.

I back the direction Craig decided to go with the prizes. He's the boss.

Also, if by chance I happen to place in the tourney, I'll donate my cash winnings to PIF. Other folks need the funds more than I do.
