I've been thinking about something. With this kind of money involved there may be someone outside of NCKA brotherhood who may have some funny ideas up their sleeve. I'm concerned about people combining their fish so one person weighs in both peoples fish. Call me paranoid. Say karma rules. I'm down with all that but I want this known. If anyone sees some funny shit going down I would like to know about it. Anonymously. People who get popped trying to cheat in the tourney will be banned for life. Then put in stocks for the tomato toss. :smt003

I think it would be cool to spread the winnings out a little if possible. Top 5 or 10. Maybe a nice group pic of the top ten anglers to at least acknowledge placing that highly. For some people it could be a lifetimes best placing to be tenth place, out of over one hundred kayak anglers, for this one year they compete. It would be nice to recognize that persons achievement. Maybe we should all get a participation trophy.... Like I said before I think it should pay the top three as those are the ones who earned it.

America's "everyone gets a trophy" syndrome has become a national joke. "A" grades, which once conveyed excellence, are now given to 43 percent of all college students,.........

Instead of top 8 or top 10 prizes, perhaps handing participants a copy of a these life lessons would have more long lasting value.

1) Life is not fair—get used to it!
2) The world will expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself.
3) You won't be a vice president with a car phone until you earn both.
4) If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
5)  Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping—they called it opportunity.
6)  Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you are.
7)  In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to anything in real life.
8 )  Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.
9)  Television is not real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
10) Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not.

Top 3....period!  If you can't make that grade then too bad. Try harder. Fish more. Learn more.
Might as well give out blue ribbons for all who participated.
Don't take away from those who have put in their time, studied the habits of the fish they target, and put in their time. (Yea, I wrote it again)
None of which pertain to me.
Just sayin'.  :smt044

New prize format looks good to me.  1st place is still very significant and way more than 3rd to 8th.   :smt001

Well since Jim mentioned it and I had thought about it, this seems like a good direction. The whole idea around the cash prizes this year was to give back to the people who have been so supportive of this event to help Joel and Marv over the years. So, then by say, watering down first through third to go from first through eighth seems fitting. Yes?

Then there is still the hundred cash to the biggest Dungeness.

Very much in agreement with both statements. I have said it before and been blasted, but I will say it again. If you don't know how to fish for a certain species, learn how to. If you want to show up and get a trophy(cash), earn it. If you you can't figure out how to do better, you might as well admit you do not have the ability to learn. Fishing in these tournaments will make you a better fisherman, but not if there is no need to try harder and you still get a prize.
Top three, period. It was the original rule, now its a second thought and pier pressure apparently even gets to the best of us.
It's like AOTY. The guy who wins it deserves the kayak for winning. This year is a crock of crap. Work hard all year and win. That is awesome. Catch a 3" bluegill and win the kayak. Bullshit.
My opinion, start blasting.
