I have the hobie clip leash for rods and.... I have no where to attach it! Can put it anywhere on my reel without it interfering, and I see no way to attach any kind of cord to the rod! Where do you put yours?

Ziptie a key ring just under your reel...or wherever it doesn't get in your way.

:smt005 man, it took me years to figure this one out :smt044
I find that I like to have the ring zip ties at the rear of the reel seat, so that the leash doesn't interfere with the reel handle.

I use 550 cord, make a loop (Bowline loop) and attach to the reel handle, (Spinning reel mainly) the other end gets attached to either the brass seat clip or an eyelet I mounted, via a carabineer.

I take a piece of small diameter bungee and make a long loop around the rod just above the reel then take a small ziptie and cinch it down so it forms a loop. That is where I clip the leash. I like using the bungee b/c the loop sticks and stays open. I tried the velcro ones, ones with clips, etc all take two hands to (un)fasten. Mine is a one hand operation. I can snap a pic when I get home if you want

Penn has replacement reel clamps that have a leash retaining ring built in. P/N 33-113 The Hobie leash clip fits it. The are made from rust proof FRP. it fits all the graphite 500 series reels. Hope this info helps.

Everything I own is sacraficial. The only thing attached is my paddle. In the event you flip, which can, and will happen, you can get tangled in the lines. I went over once, at Shelter Cove, and my feet were TIED! The way I rolled, all my leashes- rod, game clip, paddle, etc wrapped around my feet, and I was stuck with the kayak upside down. So with that being said, I go out with the intent of never seeing anything onboard ever again. But that is just me, based on an event that happened years ago, all I know is that I do not want my feet tied again, or a leash wrapped around my neck because "just untangling it" is not always an option. The flipped yak can put the line in a bind, you are floating with your vest and wetsuit on, and cannot go under to get slack. Usually you go over because of heavy swell and surge like what happened to me, so everything is being pulled tight and not a God Damn Thing you can do about it. SO, with that being said, I use a burlap sack for my fish, and I will let Cody use a game clip leashed to the yak, but that is it other than a paddle leash, and they have to be VELCRO.

I like the zip tie option.

Montana. That's why I keep my dive knife on me even when fishing. If a sturgeon pulls me over and wraps me in braid I'd at least like to have a chance of cuttin the line.

I use those little velcro computer cable ties (buy in bulk) with the loop built in, and attach a key ring hoop to it, and make my own very short/thin bungee leashes. Those 4ft leashes that they sell are too long and get tangled too easily...

I would suggest to dump the leashing the rods idea and resorting to floats instead. I use leash myself but only for my mirage drive when surf launch/landing then I'd stow it away.

Wouldn't you need a rather bulky float to keep a rod and reel up?

Dive knife is great........as long as you can reach it. I keep a knife on my PFD now. Cody uses a rod float, I should too, but I think of a lost rod as paying tax to the water gods. If I lose it, God wanted it. (Have not lost one since GS4)
Another reason I fish ugly sticks, and a penn 209 reel. Plenty to get the job done, and I do not have to cash in mutual funds to buy it if I lose it. Sure there are guys that have to have the latest greatest lamiglass, ultra sensitive, personalities I guess, but I am out maybe $110. I like to keep things simple.
