Tired of it being such a pain to get my kayak places. I'm looking for a rack that can accomadate two hobie outbacks. Right now I have a Nissan sentra with a sunroof and nothing on the top. Can I even put a rack on it? If so how? I don't see how one would attach.

My car is on its last leg and ill be getting a new one soon, so hopefully it can easily come off and go on the new one?

Also looking for a suggestions on a vehicle. Something cheap ish that is easy to load yaks on and good on gas. Using it as a commuter and for fishing/diving trips. I have a lot of crap i take and also like to car camp.

Have you considered a small utility or harbor freight trailer? If you get a light one any vehicle can pretty much tow it. It's not to hard to set one up as a kayak carrier.

I like yakima stuff, and they seem to have something for any vehicle. If your car doesn't have raingutters you can use their gutterless feet. I have them on my CRV and they work great.
Outbacks are pretty wide, so you would want to be sure you get the appropriate width crossbars.

Outbacks are what, 32" wide?  x 2 = 64 inches minimum.  You'll be pushing it on the roof unless you're willing to go with J racks.

My Outback won't fit on a J rack because of the hull shape.

I have extended poles on my roof rack and I can put two Outbacks on the top of my Dakota no problem. I think they are about six feet in length. They hang over the side of my vehicle, but are out of the way.

Hmm. So there are rain gutter and non version? Sounds like I can't buy one for now that will work on the next. No trailer for me. I don't want to be stuck doing 55 everywhere and I'd rather have just the car anyway.

How can I find out 100% what model will accommodate two outback and work for me? Hopefully someone has a model they know and can link to me somewhere on here to make it easier.

most of the Yakima and Thule mounts have replaceable feet/clips that alter the roof they will fit. They are $25ish for a set and you will find they make them for most cars.

Once you find what pieces you need, look on craigslist.  Thats where i've always bought all my yakima stuff and its never been anywhere near $350.

Just remember if you have like 66" bars and they extend out past the vehicle (especially on a short car like a Sentra) they are gonna be a hazard for anyone who walks around the car.  I bump my head occasionally on my racks and they're only 58".

I broke down and got a Yakima rack for my car. Best investment Yet!
It costs more than my kayak.
