Warm, windless, glassy with crystal clear water. Lings and blues nonstop. 7 out of 8 lings were legal, kept one (31").  Amazing day.

Good for you!  We didn't even launch this morning as the spot we wanted was too windy for our tastes.  I hope you keep that fishing area!

Dude!
I've always wanted to hit that area. Just off Harvey St...think I know where that is. Will have to check google maps.
Probably epic fishing. Definitely want to hit it before winter hits.

Thanks for the report!

Cambria is about 35 miles or so north of San Luis Obispo, on Hwy 1.

Cambria is why I started kayak fishing!  I had tried fisheing all my life growing up as a kid, ending up in the late 70's starting to fish the Eel River for salmon and steelhead.  But then worked overseas in refugee camps for a decade. When I returned and "retooled", I just never thought I had time to fish again.  But after 14 more years, my wife and I and a couple were staying in a rental at Cambria three years ago, and when we walked down to the beach we saw a young man returning on a kayak after fishing the kelp beds.  I think it may have been exactly at Harvey street.  I was intrigued.  Within two weeks I bought a Tarpon and my friend bought two.  We have been trying to get better at the fishing part ever since.

Haven't had the time to go back to Cambria since, but would love to talk with you some about how to fish that area when I get a chance to return.

The swell is going to be up for the next few days and I'm going to be out of town through this weekend anyway but if anyone is interested in hooking up in down here, give me a call: Greg @ 805.4408701.  If you're in the area next week I'm planning on going out next Monday 9/25 BTW.

PJ: You and I need to talk! I'm putting together a package to be shipped to the F&G Commission regarding the Cambria SMR which is presently poised to cut off nearly all of the Lampton/Harvey/Marine Terrace fishing area. Call me (number above).

It would it be nice to have another fishin' buddy in the area too...

Man, all this time, I thought Flemish Cap was up north!
D'OH!

Thanks for the info guys. Looking forward to cruising down 1 sometime in October to hit Cambria, San Simeon, etc. Shoot, I'd go this wknd if I didn't already have plans to camp at Lake San Antonio!

And THANKS for putting our sentiments into action by writing to the Commission. That area is definitely worth fighting for! Thank you.

When does the rockfish season end down in SLO county? Before or after Turkey Day? If after, then I'd likely be able to make a trip, weather permitting.

Regards,
Scott

Your guys had sweet areas. I have fished from pt lopez to willow creek in this summer, but never came down to Cambria areas. It would be awesome to hook up with you ONCE on these areas if time & condition permit. Thanks for the info.
