I lost my perception swing twice. Once in the fast lane by Madonna Inn in SLO the cross wind was high. And I had the foam blocks. I had to load it by my self on foam blocks on top of my ford Areostar. In the wind I still can't figure out how I did it in the center divider. At least I was in fast lane and yak was doing 70 mph in the weeds. Funny now wasn't then. I see some people use those foam blocks now and I cringe. Those things went in trash after the second time.

I think this is the first time I've seen a Yak bigger than the car that was carrying it!

color me paranoid when it comes to tie downs. locking ratchet straps all around.

You just secure the yak directly to the crossbars w/o specialized carrier?

I strap directly to the crossbars, also.

Me too!

Although on one of my cars, I've been using the Malone Sea Wings, as the Predator doesn't go upside down.  I've grown to really like these saddles as they have a big foot print, which means the load is spread and I don't get any oil canning.

me too....... upsidedown & i do run a rope through the front handle and secure it to the car front, just to keep the yak tied to the car if one of the main straps fail.

Yup, I think yall might be overthinking it.  Flip it upside down and strap her up!  The way the yak gets fatter in the middle, there's no way it can go flying, unless your straps break, of course.

I have lost MANY off the roof. Lost three before I got craddles, and once I had craddles, lost my P13 when a strap broke. All that on my F150. Bought my Tacoma, and last May on the way to Shelter, hit some wind and it peeled the racks off the truck, with the kayaks with it. Have not lost one on the Tacoma since tying the nose to the bumper.

Watch the tag end of your bow line. I had a knot come loose on the way to the ar. Last year damn thing went under the tire got lucky and only ripped the front handle off the yak.

Awesome, thanks guys! I'm going to buy my yak next week. Was trying to figure out a good way to transport. Ratchet ties directly to cross bars sounds super simple. Do you cover the cross bars in foam (like pool noodles or something?)
